Most hospitals have a policy regarding staffing in the event a hurricane hits. The way my hospital system does it is by dividing between A and B teams. A team reports to the hospital before the hurricane and stays there during. B team reports directly afterwards and works while A team goes home.

Hurricane preparedness is just a fact of life in Florida and hospitals have to see to it that they're appropriately staffed. That being said the last time a hurricane really came through was 2005. It's not a constant beatdown from mother nature, just an occasional one; I'd rather live here than in tornado alley any day.
