Hello all,

I thought I would start a thread for those of us applying to HCC's Spring 2013 nursing program. I am a Veterinary Technician/stay at home mom. I'm gathering everything for my application and hoping to drop it off at HCC soon. The deadline isn't until 6/1 but they recommend turning it in at least 30 days in advance. I'm a current HCC student. I was planning on applying for Fall this year, but am now expecting a little girl to arrive in July so spring it is! My pre-req GPA is 3.86 (all A's and 1 B), I'm hoping that this is good enough to get me a spot in the program for DM evening classes. Good luck to all!

Some words of encouragement for anybody who may be nervous:

One thing that has been bothering me is when people tell me that becoming a nursing student is essentially giving up your life and you will have to divorce your family for the durtion of the program. I hear at orientation they say the same thing. Its as if the people I'm talking to are trying to scare me into quitting. Of course it's going to be hard work! I don't believe any of us are taking this lightly and any one of us who want it bad enough will work as hard as they can to be successful. Other people I talk to are more encouaging. According to them, all you have to do is keep a routine, set up a scheduale to study and read, and keep to it everyday. If you set that time aside everyday and study, you can be successful in this program and still have some time for enjoyment. Just don't put anything off until the last minute and keep up with the reading. Everybody goes at their own pace and everyone has different styles of learning, but just wait and see how it is for YOU and please don't let them scare you. Even so, some of this stuff may be so intersting to you that you may not want to put that book down! You may even have fun! I'm not going to let it ruin my life for sure! In the end, you're going to have one of the most valuable degrees and careers around, so just keep that in mind.

I hope to get there about 7:15 and sit as close to the front as possible, I plan on wearing an orange and black scarf (for identification, just in case I am the first from our group there) maybe we could just meet upstairs...any other suggestions? Oh and don't forget to have writing materials and bring snacks!

I will hopefully be able to join you guys , I will be there closer to 8 though.

I know how you feel, I work full time and also married with a 2 year old. We'll just have to learn to schedule our lives and our families will need to support us. Good news is we have summer off to get ahead

I live over in lakeland. Yes I asked for this time and campus because I work on an Ambulance and we work for 24 hrs so I was scared if I got a late call I wouldn't get off my truck in time to make it to class.

What is everyone wearing????

Which campus did you get into? I got into the Dale mabry am classes.

I'm going to DM NW. Maybe we could meet up some time to study!

HI, I live behind LA Fitness too. Super horrible accident tonight

I sat in the traffic for 45 minutes, trying to get to my house, not 100 yards past the accident. Couldn't get home until 9:15... At least Wire Grass is close by . I read on the news last night it was a head on collision between an SUV and a mid-sized compact. Looks like the person in the compact was ejected from the car. Landed 2 Bay Flight helicopters there at the gym, but looks like the 3 people involved were all air lifted and were classified as Trauma Cases. So I guess that means they all are alive.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but I keep up with the FL nursing program forum and I saw that accident too! I live behind LA Fitness too. I saw the first ambulances and fire trucks that came followed by the rest and then two helicopters. My heart sank, I hope they are okay!

Saw your message to me, but the site won't let me reply. Shoot me an email some time if you're looking for nursing buddies to study with. [email protected]
