Hello all,

I thought I would start a thread for those of us applying to HCC's Spring 2013 nursing program. I am a Veterinary Technician/stay at home mom. I'm gathering everything for my application and hoping to drop it off at HCC soon. The deadline isn't until 6/1 but they recommend turning it in at least 30 days in advance. I'm a current HCC student. I was planning on applying for Fall this year, but am now expecting a little girl to arrive in July so spring it is! My pre-req GPA is 3.86 (all A's and 1 B), I'm hoping that this is good enough to get me a spot in the program for DM evening classes. Good luck to all!

Rachanee

Denied. No, not to GPA.

"Official sealed AP and CLEP scores, listed on University of Central Florida transcript, has not been received."

What's disturbing to me is that NONE of my HCC prereqs are on my UCF transcript. So, why is this relevant?

Unbelievable.

Had these %$@*%&@(s actually UPDATED Hawknet like an EFFICIENT organization should do ONCE ALL DOCS WERE RECEIVED, (May 21, 2012 for me) that would have been an effective way to communicate to me what I was missing.

But they didn't do that now did they.

In accordance with the bottom of Page 13 here:

in particular the part that says "...inaccurate information or notification of the status of application." As well as in the paragraph above it that says

"Applicants with Earned Degrees: The restricted access Health Sciences programs do not give admission preference to applicants with earned

degrees at any level including associates, baccalaureates, masters, or doctorates. All applicants have the same opportunity for admission

according to their GPA in prerequisites or overall GPA if there are no prerequisites." How am I being given an opportunity if non-prerequisite credits are being examined?

For my italicized reasons above I will try to appeal, but I am not optimistic.

Should I not prevail, it has been a pleasure, everyone. I will continue to follow along the thread meanwhile as I feel like you all have become a bit of a "second family..." My posts might become less frequent but I will still stay in the loop meanwhile. :\

Gradius, I would appeal. If our prereqs are all that is considered for entrance then your UCF transcript should not be in contention. hope it turns out well, best wishes and hope you will be part of the 2013 class.

I'm so sorry to hear that. I wish you the best of luck with your appeal.

Thank you for the well wishes Moneek and Rachanee... it's just really funny to me that my 6 credits in American History (AP) and 3 credits in National Government (CLEP) are the reason I'm being denied. I don't see either of those on the Prerequisite list.

If this doesn't work out then I am starting to think Accelerated BSN. But I really didn't want to do that because that would mean I'd have to get more loans which I don't want. :(

Nonetheless, I will keep you all advised.

That is not right. I would appeal. Fingers crossed it works out for you in the long run.

Now my challenge is going to see if CLEP and AP can have my 10+ year old scores in my hands before the week is over. 11 days is cutting it close for a 9/28 deadline.

I'll be calling AP/CLEP tomorrow, of course.

Can anyone give me some background on the Plant City campus. That's closest to me and I have to go to building 100 by next Friday if I am to appeal. Any info you can give would be great. Thanx.

Gradius, I feel your pain my friend! Good luck with your appeal. Keep us posted on how it turns out. I turned in my appeal yesterday and the Advisor told me I should hear something by mid-October. She told me that while my reasons are valid and factual and follow the guidelines for reasons to appeal, she was not optimistic about the appeal being sustained simply because and I quote "Health Sciences marches to the beat of their own drum, they will more than likely determine this to be their error, however, you are responsible for your own records and this is their way of weeding people out". I was stunned. Anyway, fingers crossed for both of us. If you have the ability to do an accelerated BSN program, I would highly advise you do that. Many hospitals are in the process of requiring a BSN for their RN's and are simply not hiring as many with only Associate's degrees. Just a piece of advice to you...it will cost you more time and money in the long run if you go the AS-RN to BSN route rather than doing BSN-RN in the first shot.

Plant City Campus is located off of Park Road in Plant City. The campus is small and easy to maneuver through. When you exit from I-4 go left onto Park Rd at the light then follow Park Rd for about 3/4 of a mile. Take a left onto Cherry Street (stop light) then make a left into HCC's first parking lot entrance, there will be a parking lot directly in front of you and that's where you park for student services and there's a sign on the building you go into. Very easy to find.

Hello and congrats to everyone who got in. I got in too. Finally.

Anyone knows what shots we need? Somebody promised to post info about it. See you all in November.

My wife is in her final year of HCC's Nuclear Med program, so I got a copy of her Health and Immunization form from when she started. It may not be 100% identical to the nursing form, but will probably be very close.

1. Rubeola (Measles) - Two doses of live measles vaccine administered after 1967 with the first vaccination on or after the first birthday. Two doses must be at least 30 days apart.

2. Rubella (German Measles) - One dose on or after first birthday

3. Mumps - One dose on or after first birthday

*** MMR titers may be done in lieu of vaccination documentation. MMR may be given instead of individual vaccines. Copies of lab report must be attached when titers performed.

4. Tdap - Must be within the last 10 years

5. Tb screening. PPD required. Chest x-ray if PPD is positive.

6. Polio - It does't say required, but specifically asks if received as a child (yes/no). Year of last booster.

7. Hepatitis B - It says, "Series of 3 vaccinations required, strongly recommended for healthcare workers." Then afterwards states, "If student declines series, submit a completed declination form to the program manager".

8. Varicella Titer (Chicken Pox) - If titer comes back non-immune, 2 doses of vaccine are required.

There's also a physical that you have completed.

We have to get the " Influenza" as well right???

I turned in my campus request today, the consent form and the check. Before we know it, we will be crazy busy with studying... I will be enjoying this down time :)
