Anybody applying ...? =)

@leepoffaith

I had no medical training either when I entered the program and I was scared as hell to go to clinicals. But don't worry, they will teach you everything you need to know. Along with class hours you will also have to complete lab hours. For us we had to complete 2 hours a week for the first 5 weeks of class and then an additional 5 hours before the semester ended (in total an extra 15 hours outside of your lecture and clinical hours). So be prepared for that, but in these lab hours you will go over how to do everything and you have to practice and get signed off by the lab tech. You will get a checkoff list of everything your expected to know how to do.

As far as the meds go, I only passed meds once this semester and that will always be under your clinical instructors supervision. I gave PO meds (by mouth) and I gave 1 SubQ (shot) and it honestly is easier than you think. You will always be taking people blood sugar with the Accucheck machines and you will have to prick someones finger...no biggie.

Its normal for your first day to be nervous and not really know what to do, but you will fall into place and have plenty of stuff to do. They always need people to change linens, give bed baths, you will vitals on your patient 3 times a day, and you will also be introduced to the lovely world of care plans! Start studying your nursing diagnosis :)

Hope this helps! :)

Thanks so much for the info!!

I just registered for my CPR/BLS class. I went to this site: In-Pulse CPR- ยป Over 9 class locations in FL. Offering CPR, First Aid and AED American Heart certifications., and if you use discount code: NEWS, you get $5 off so it is $45 instead of the normal $50.

I chose the 6/14 evening class... if anyone wants to join me!

Closer and closer..... :)

Going to be taking this with you, Brandee! Just so happens to be on my birthday. :) I'd rather do it now than have to rush if I get accepted last minute!

Awesome. It'll be nice to have a "familiar face"!

RN_in_training_2011:

from what i am reading, classes/instruction are/is held twice a week and clinical(s) are held 2 additional days... totaling (4) days a week on campus. i am trying to schedule my work around school... and 3 vs 4 days of mandatory on-campus days makes a huge difference for me. i am a bit confused as to the schedule...

too bad you're ahead of us... probably make a decent study buddy.

All this info will be given at orientation, that is what the nursing admin told me, because I asked for the same reason.

@startingovragain

No, you will have class 2 days a week and 1 clinical day a week. It's only confusing because each class has 2 set clinical days because the class gets split up on those two days. Half of our class went on Thursday and the other half went on Friday.

Also for the CPR class, at our orientation we were told that HCC was holding their own CPR classes through the continuing education classes and its was pretty cheap & easy. So that might be an option for you guys also.

And you are going to have to have all of your immunization shots up to date and get a physical done and turned into HCC for before school starts. They will go over that in orientation and give you all the paper work for that.

so00oo0o... 3 days a week, correct? =) thanks again, i really appreciate you answering all my questions.

Hello all,

I'm actually a potential applicant for HCC's Spring 2013 program, however I was wondering I might ask you all something about transcripts. I sent my first transcript (of several I need to send) to the address on the application to HCC on 4/17/12 electronically. But after examination of Hawknet/Webadvisor and a phone call to HCC today, they have nothing yet. And our Spring deadline is June 1. So a few questions:

a) To those that may have sent transcripts (from other schools) electronically, (or in paper form) you sent them to the address on the Nursing application, correct?

b) If you did this, what was the turnaround time from when you sent them to having them show up in Hawknet/WebAdvisor? Assuming they did show up in it, that is?

c) Did you submit paper copies of your transcripts as well as a "just in case" measure when you submitted your application?

Thanks in advance...

Gradius,

HCC isn't the fastest with processing transcripts. If they haven't received them electronically, that could be a problem. From what I've been told, that happens instantly. If you've spoken to an advisor and they have nothing, I'd request hard copies in a sealed envelope from the schools and hand delivering them to an advisor. It took them a year to run the evaluation on mine before they showed up in WebAdvisor. However, even knowing they had them, I still got copies (high school and other colleges I've attended) and sent them in with my application just to be safe.

Thank you for your response... that's the feeling I'm getting over on our Spring 2013 thread as well. Will plan to work on this further tomorrow... and assuming I can get paper copies of all to myself directly, I will forward them on to HCC with the application along via Certified Mail more than likely.

I can't wait to... start waiting... once my group gets our apps in! I'm sure the wait for all of you was agony! :)
