FAU Accelerated BSN Program and GPA

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hi there!

I'm planning on applying to the FAU accelerated program for May 2014. For anyone that has applied or gone through the program, what was your "Science GPA"? I know 3.0 is "required" but I want to know what would be most helpful getting into the program or what past students had for Science GPA that gained them admission to the program. While I realize there are many factors, I'm considering taking Math for Liberal Arts at Broward College to replace my "C+" in College Algebra that I got back in 1996. All the rest of my "Science GPA" courses are "A"s, "B"s in 1 credit lab courses and one other "C". I really want to get in but don't want to take unnecessary classes! Thanks for any help or guidance!!

Your prior bachelors needs to be above 3.0.

The GPA for the science is separate. They calculate your science gpa with these classes...

i. Anatomy & Physiology I with Lab

ii. Anatomy & Physiology II with Lab

iii. Microbiology with Lab

iv. College Algebra or equivalent

v. Statistics

The other pre req. need to be completed with a C or better but they are not calculated in your GPA.

I was told most people get 99% on the TEAS V. I also have a C in college alg. but they advised me not to retake it. She said it was fine with As in the other classes. If you have C in several of those science gpa classes, then I would consider retaking something.

Which chemistry classes are necessary? I took CHM1032-principles of chemistry at Palm beach State. Finishing up my pre-req's for my BSN I was told I need 2 more chemistry classes...with lab?

I was told to take CHM1045-general chemistry 1 and CHM1046-general chemistry 2.

Are these required for the BSN program at FAU?

CHM1032 is all you need. There are no other chemistry classes needed.

Florida Atlantic University - Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing - Future Students It is only Chm1032 with that lab.

ant. 1 & 2, with labs, micro with lab, statistics, college alg. or higher, nutrition, sociology, psychology, dev. psychology, chemistry with lab.

plus your basic classes for your prior degree.

Thank you so much for your response mchel210! I was so concerned about taking 2 more chemistry classes, CHM1032 was super hard for me. I didn't take the lab for CHM1032, gotta see how that is going to work out.

All I have left are algebra, statistics and sociology!

Thanks again!

Hey guys! I'm planning to apply for 2014 as well. I just took the TEAS today. Do you mean 99% adjusted score, or national percentile rank? My adjusted was 96%, but I am in the 99th national percentile rank. I was pretty pleased with my score, and thought it might boost my chances. Here's hoping?

Hi Quendi,

Congratulations on your 96% score!!! I just took TEAS V yesterday, and I am in 96th national percentile rank, which is only 87% in adjusted score. After reading all the posts, I have realized that it might not be enough... Does anyone else want to share their TEAS score? Am I the only one with the score below 90%?

Maka, from what I've seen your score is pretty competitive for most programs, it simply depends on where you are applying. Are you applying to FAU? If you are I would recommend popping over to our other thread and asking this years applicants.

Yes, FAU traditional program. My GPA is 4.0, but 87% in TEAS might not be enough….I wish I had 30 days to retake it...

I actually don't know much about the traditional program, although we did have a couple post in the ABSN 2014 thread. I will say this though, you never quite know what they are looking for. If you make the cut for interviews, that will be your chance to shine. Best of luck and feel free to stop by and let us know how it's going for the traditional applicants! :)

Thank you for your response and much needed words of encouragement. I think that both programs are equally popular and require high GPA's and TEAS scores.
