Concorde in Jacksonville?

U.S.A. Florida

Published

I tried to do a search and there doesnt seem to be anyone that has gone to the nursing program at Concorde in Jacksonville. I was accepted into their Spetember class with the option of starting later this month if sopts become available. I know there are Concordes in other cities but Im sure that every city has different experiences. Any comments, good or bad, would be appreciated.

Hi everyone! I attended Concorde in 2007 for their LPN program. I didn't have a very good experience at the school. They don't require ANY professionalism from their students that are not in the nursing program etc. Medical Asst, Dental Asst. and it's ALL politics. They do have a good pass rate for the NCLEX-PN but for $21,000 I need the entire package. SOME of their teachers don't keep control in the classrooms and they let the "know it all" students basically teach the class. Now I don't know about the RN program because they was just getting it together when I was going there. But I ended up leaving and I am now applying to Keiser University RN program. WISH ME LUCK! I take the NET test on Tuesdsay. But Congrats to you all that are going to Concorde for RN. I wish you all the luck. :yeah:

I just want to tell everyone that Sanford Brown's RN program is fantastic. The director is very experienced, and professional. She was the director for a community college in Kentucky and moved here to start Sanford's program. They do have a waiting list for the future classes. You have the option of taking prereqs outside the school or from them. I had just about all of my prereqs done, and I had all A's. I chose to go there because I could start in Jan., rather than waiting to take the last 2 prereqs for FCCJ and then apply and wait. I am happy with my decision, so far. I don't know how it will transfer to other public schools for bsn in the future, but I am not worried about it because I can just get my AA from FCCJ and then go on from there.

i just recieved my acceptance letter in the mail!!! i will try to keep everyone posted on how the program is going as i move along...this is a big change for me...i've ran a home daycare for about 20yrs. but ready to follow my dream.

congrats! i will be a career changer as well. please keep us posted. if nothing changes, then I will be seeing you in September.

I am sorry to hear that you had such a bad experience there. There are bad students everywhere and being a teacher myself it is a bit disheartening to hear that students were allowed to take over the classroom and learning had stopped. I know when I went to visit I did see the population of students that were "loud" in the hallways but, in my opinion, you have to look at the type of student that you are dealing with. In the SEVERAL times that I visited the campus I didnt see those type of behaviors in the RN, Res., or Dental students but I did see them in some of the other programs. Im not trying to generalize just giving my observations, however, you can always tell the groups of people that are serious about an education and the ones that are biding their time. I am sure those loud, "know it all", disruptive students are going to be the same ones calling Concorde when they are not offered a job after graduation. Good luck at Keiser, I was looking into their program but I figured if I was going to wait until January 2010 or August 2010 that I would apply to one of the community colleges for a cheaper price tag. I hope that you do well on the NET and hopefully we will not be competing for the same nursing position in the future. :)

I am happy that you made the best choice for you and not based off of here-say. Good luck at Sanford Brown. I looked into their program as well but the next class started in July and it was a evening/night 6pm-10pm program and I am way to use to getting up at 5am to go to work to switch it up that drastically. :)

Yes, the evening program may be great for some, but I am happy I got in to the January program for days! They start a day program each January. I am so exited with this school right now, I am on top of the world!:lol2:

are the evening classes at sanford brown just for the pre-reqs or is it for the entire program?

i look forward to meeting you...i'm hoping to have some one to study with and to graduate with! will your pre-reqs be done by sept?

I checked into Sanford Brown(online) and a representative from there called me the next morning. She basically indicated that since I had no previous medical experience, I would have to go through their Medical Assisting program BEFORE enrolling in their RN program. Yeah, NO! What a complete waste of time. I don't want to be an MA, I want to be an RN. It sounded like a scam to make more money to me.

I'm going to call Concorde again tomorrow to schedule the NET exam. Hopefully I can start their Fall classes. It would be cool to get to know other people who are starting at the same time. :)

The whole program is evenings, although toward the end some clinicals may end up being done during the day, but the way they have it now even the clinicals are done at night.

This may be a way to keep you interested in their program versus others. (or to give you extra points on admittance. They do give points for experience.) I say that because the director of the nursing program told me that they are already wait listing for the next 3 starts from now, that is a year and a half away! I am glad that I already have medical experience so this is not a problem for me. I do recommend that you talk to some other Concorde students before you sign up with them, everybody I have talked to that went there was not happy with what they left that school with. I talked to people who attended Concorde schools in other cities and they were happy, so it may just be a local problem, and since the nursing program is fairly new maybe they won't have that problem. Also, have you looked into Keiser? I checked them out and they would be my second choice after Sanford Brown, I don't remember them asking about prior medical experience. Good luck, I hope you end up as happy with your decision as I am with mine

Thanks for the info. I did actually talk to someone at Keiser and they, too tried to get me to take another program while waiting for the RN program. The problem with Keiser is that the Jan 2010 start is already filled and I'd have to wait even longer to start. Also Keiser had a mandatory interview process to become eligable for acceptance which I thought was weird. Another thing that I like about Concorde is that all they do is medical training, and they've been reputable for years.
