  1. 0
Hello. I am looking to move to the Clearwater/Tampa florida area. i've been nursing for 1 year now. I am trying to find out what an rn's average salary is and the average cost of living.

would anyone be kind enough to tell me their nurse pay as well as their monthly expenses. this would just give me a better idea of what a cost of living is like. This is the summary of what i we are looking for

    Income

    base rn salary per hour
    bi-monthly pay

    Monthly expenses

    house rental (3 bedroom)/apartment
    Utilities gas
    electric
    water
    phone bills
    cable

    car insuranceh
    ealth insurance
    groceries
family entertainment (theme park, theatre, cinema etc.)
    dining out

anything else you can add please feel free. Borrowed from a thread posted in 2006.

your response will be greatly appreciated
    many thanks once again

i will due my best to answer some of your questions ... but if you are thinking about moving to either hillsborough or pinellas county i say go for it. in terms to cost of living, everything is somewhat relative... florida doesn't take stated taxes out of your paycheck so you checks maybe a little bigger than you are currently accustom to. the housing and rental market is somewhat fare, but is definitely driven by the proximity to the water. gas is a little bit more than other states. overall there are worse places to live in our country

Keep in mind that your individual situation will affect these costs. I provided a few median costs for the Tampa Bay Area. Although we do not pay state income tax we do however have one of the nation's lowest salary payscale...There is a big demand here for Nursing but keep in mind that those with BSN degrees are preferred over those with ASN. Good luck

Do you have any suggestions? We don't have to live close to the water. I'm more interested in finding a job and living in a safe middle to middle-upper class community (like where I can see people outside jogging or ridign their bikes). lol. I am wanting to go into critical care, ER, OB, or cardiac.. but only have psych experience. Know of anyone hiring that will take me in? We are coming down to visit in a couple weeks and would love to have suggestions of where to start our hunt.. planning our trip and schedule for possible interviews for jobs and apartments.

Have you considered buying a house here? Thay are cheap-cheap-cheap. I bought mine for cash like one-third of home purchases in TB are done. The point about proximity to the water and price is well-taken and obvious.

homes are at great bargains in the Tampa and surrounding suburbs area

    Great middle class ares are:

    FishHawke
    Valrico
    New Tampa
    Wesley Chaple
    Riverview
    Brandon

The pay in the Tampa/Fl area is lower than the national average, however no state taxes and real estate has taken a huge hit so there are bargains to be had compaired to out west and the north east areas of the US.

    Major hospitals are:

    Tampa General
    Florida Hospital
    St Joseph's
    Brandon General
    etc

There are several HCA facilities in Pinellas County that will take you. I'd guess with 1 year of experience your pay would be $22ish an hour plus shift differentials. HCA offers some pay in lieu of benefits so if you have insurance elsewhere you can make closer to $30 an hour. Good luck. It's a great area to live in.
