CE BROKER - Help!

Can anyone please explain to me how this CE Broker thing is suppose to work? My Florida license comes up for renewal next year and I need to get my CEU's done .... but I am also a full time BSN student and I know the credits I am taking for my BSN can be applied to my required CEU's .... with the exception on AIDS/HIV, Domestic Violence and Medical Errors.

What I do not understand is how CE Broker comes into the equation. Can anyone give me a reasonable explanation as to why Florida would go to an outside compnay for this and how it works for the nurse?

You do not have to use CE broker. They are not affiliated with the state. They are a for profit company that keeps track of your CEUs for you. I just keep my certificates from the companies I get my credits from. If I am ever audited I can send the board a copy of my CEU certificates.

Patrick, I don't use CE Broker either. I wouldn't worry about them if I were you. I ignore them.

Thats the way I feel too. Ignor them. However, all the information I am receiving from the State of Florida, almost makes me think that joining CE Broker is required. I am happy to just do my CEU's and then, if audited ... I will just send in my proof.

Exactly. I use Medscape for my CEUs, in addition to my hospital's freebies. I keep current copies printed up and in a separate binder for audit and referencial purposes.

I really don't like the idea of this company seeming to be an affiliate to the BON. It's very misleading.

Here is the information from the Florida Board of NUrsing Website. I however am a continuing education provider for nurses, and have a website. As a provider I have to report hours to CE Broker under this FLorida regulation. All continuing education providers are required to report. It is optional for nurses to subscribe.

Attention Licensees:

The CE Broker system is the Florida Department of Health continuing education tracking database. Your continuing education will be tracked whether or not you subscribe. CE Providers began submitting licensee CE course completions to the new CE Tracking System (CE Broker) on January 1, 2004, in accordance with Florida Statute 456.025(7). Course completions submitted to CE Broker (http://www.cebroker.comYou are leaving the Department of Health, Division of Medical Quality Assurance websites.) will be used to determine that licensees have met their continuing education requirements at the end of the effective license renewal period.
