Broward College starting Jan 2013

Have been hearing that BC will be requiring math prerequisite and may be dropping Chemistry pre-req for nursing program for students starting Jan 2013. Please post any specific information you have received from the school. I have emailed them but have not heard back. The people on the phone are not exactly sure what's going to happen.

It seems like everything is still in the air. I've heard that they will make Micro, Humanities and also a Math course part of the admission requirment, but who knows for sure. I believe this was discuss during the May 2012 orientation when a lot of student wanted to defer their seats to August 2012; and that was made verbally know to them. Nothing is in writing or even updated on the BC website. I guess we would have to what until the the middle of the Fall trimester to find out. If so, I would not be able to enroll for the Spring 2013 admssion year until the 'extras' are completed...I guess we just have to wait and see.

Still can't find info about new requirements...can anyone help?

BC has changed their website page and it was a bit tricky for me to navagate myself through it. Here is the site to was the new requirements are for 2012-2013 http://www.broward.edu/academics/programs/Program%20Sheet%20Library/2127.pdf.

Hope it helps.

If you search "nursing" on the new homepage, it takes you to the new nursing page which has a link to the new catalog page PDF that tells you about the major and new prereqs (you have to click on some of the questions on the pg to get to it). The PDF shows that Chem was dropped and a gen ed math class was added to the prereqs needed to apply. Also, microbiology, a humanities course, and a social science course are additional courses needed to graduate. It is highly recommended that you take micro before you start the program, otherwise you have to take it while in the program. Otherwise it looks like everything else is the same to apply. Hope this helped!

Is Micro part of the admission process or is it just Chem and Math? I know that Micro is recommend before entering the program, but I just want to make sure. Thanks.

It's not required to apply but I've heard that admissions asks people to defer if they haven't taken Micro or won't have it done by the time they start the program. But no, it won't hinder the application process.

Thnx much. I had clicked the admission req chart and it was only for 2012 admissions. After reading the PDF are they removing the other classes previously required such as prevention of medical errors, BLS, HIV and the others? I didn't see them on it.

I just spoke to an advisor at the north campus that told me that for students applying by Septemeber 15 (jan. 2013start) that chemistry grade would be factored into GPA. There is so much conflicting information....idk

Hi everybody! I finally decided I am going to apply for january admission to north campus. After the horror stories i have heard about central. North is where ive decided to go. Also the clinical sites for north are more appealing to me versus central. I have completed all the pre-reqs with all A's and one B in Anatomy lab I. I did not complete college algebra. I have emailed a lady from the admissions process to request that my chm1032 course be accepted.

Shackna13- when you say chm1032 will be factored into the admissions gpa, does that mean college algebra is not required?

I am waiting for a reply i only sent out the email this morning. Anyway im very excited to finally start. I hope to get in, the only left for me is the hesi. Im not to worried about it. I will just go over a few study guides to refresh my math skills and read over my A&P cliff notes handbook. I am curious to read some feedback from people in the program. More recent feedback. Ive read alot of horror stories about BC especially central campus, but alot of those postings are old and im curious if there have been some positive changes. Any feedback is appreciated!

Hey GreenEyez, did you ever get a response?

I am in the same position as you, I have chm1032 but not college algebra. I would hate to have to keep waiting when I had everything ready (even the ceu's, hcp, hesi)
