Broward College starting Jan 2013

U.S.A. Florida

Have been hearing that BC will be requiring math prerequisite and may be dropping Chemistry pre-req for nursing program for students starting Jan 2013. Please post any specific information you have received from the school. I have emailed them but have not heard back. The people on the phone are not exactly sure what's going to happen.

Omg!! I want to know already!! :/And according to the nursing department, less people applied for the winter term, so shouldn't it take less time??? Aghhhh

Does anyone know if the point system applies for this term??? I thought it didn't but I was awarded points on my application status...

I'm wondering the same.. i have points awarded and when i dropped off application the health science admissions person told me my points that were awarded also. Since this is the last semester the old prereqs count i figured they may probably use point system too..

Yeah... I guess they count! Aghhh I wish my high school had the HOSA program :/ I could really use 5 extra points :),

I haven't gotten any points granted on my application status, is this normal?

I have no idea about this point stuff that people keep talking about=/ can someone please explain?

Basically those who have the most points will be accepted into the program.

"Grade Point Average RequirementIn order to apply for admission to the college's nursing program, prospective students must meet the minimum grade point average requirements. Nursing shall require a minimum grade point average of 2.5 in all college level nursing prerequisite courses. There are sixteen (16) possible points that may be awarded for the G.P.A. in the nursing prerequisite courses.

  • 2.5 = 1 point
  • 2.6 = 2 points
  • 2.7 = 3 points
  • 2.8 = 4 points
  • 2.9 = 5 points
  • 3.0 = 6 points
  • 3.1 = 7 points
  • 3.2 = 8 points
  • 3.3 = 9 points
  • 3.4 = 10 points
  • 3.5 = 11 points
  • 3.6 = 12 points
  • 3.7 = 13 points
  • 3.8 = 14 points
  • 3.9 = 15 points
  • 4.0 = 16 points

  • There is one (1) possible point that can be earned for Broward county residents. Residency for the purpose of earning this point will be based strictly on the students' address and not college residency requirements for paying in-state fees. Points will not be awarded if a post office box number is provided.
Under the articulation agreement for Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA), students will be awarded five (5) points for those students meeting the HOSA requirements within a two year time frame from the time the application is submitted. The five points will be granted during the admission selection process. All admission requirements' must be satisfied to receive the points.

  • Highest total points will constitute an offer for admission based on seat availability.
  • In the event of a tie, students will be given one(1) point for the completion of each college-level, general education course that is required toward the Associate of Science Degree for the Nursing Program. In the event that a tie remains, the point will be awarded to the student with the highest grades in the required courses. General Education courses completed prior to admission may be used to assign points in the event there is a tie for a seat.
  • General education courses completed prior to admission may be used to assign point in the event there is a tie for a seat. (Humanities course, Social Behavioral Science course and Microbiology Theory & Lab."

Hi Everyone!

Im new to this thing so sorry if you've mentioned it but whats about the avg pre-req GPA everyone has or the avg points?

I transferred from FIU so I have all my pre-reqs done including bio and humanities. Do you think that would be a plus on my application? I applied for this upcoming Jan 2013 term and i'm eagerly awaiting a response too. Oh and how many people get into a class??

Greatly appreciate it

I dont think anyone who handed their application in north got points...they must be sticking to the new guidelines ! so annoying that all the campus' are different
