Broward College hopeful for May 2013 Nursing Program

U.S.A. Florida

I know there is a lot of confusion going around with the new requirements for the BC nursing program so I wanted to start a thread for those of us finishing prerequisites and applying in January. I'm in the Core class now, but other than that I'm finished with everything else and getting very excited to start next year!

So talking with my wonderful hubby last night about scopes he told me to go ahead and get the more expensive littman cardiology III. So I guess my mind is now made up and instead of going with the cheaper classic I'll be getting the Littmann Cardiology III.

Went to a supply store to hear/see/feel the difference between the two and although I was set on getting the cardiology III, I have now decided upon the Classic. It is much lighter and will work just the same, not to mention wayyy cheaper! You can hear just the same out of both too, thought I'd share in case anyone else is toen between the two. Bonus for hubby, he gets to save some money. LOL

Has anyone had any luck looking for all white leather shoes?

Looking for comfort and affordability.

I am pouring over this right now too! I have seen comments on previous threads about 2 different types of shoes...DANSKO and ALEGRIA. They are both pretty pricey but are supposed to really help out the feet after a long day..that is definetely a high point for me..

I am still trying to find a watch too..In regards to the Stethescope..If I could just add my $.02 I have had a Littman Cardiology for over 8 years now, and that thing has been through some rough times with me and is still an amazing scope..The clarity when you are trying to decifer lung or cardio sounds it is really worth the extra money if you can. Some people have really astute hearing though and this won't be an issue..I think the years of loud music and earbuds took a toll on me :)

Also...anyone on here have exposed tattoos? If so, what are your plans?

I'm asking so obviously I have "a couple" and would love my future classmates input. I know they can't be exposed, but has anyone talked to anyone or heard any policy on this? Can we wear long sleeve undershirts? I'm sure we will find out everything at the brief, but I prefer to stress out in advance...

Just curious....

Hey Shelly, while doing some research yesterday I came across an answer to your question. It said that it needs to be covered with that special make up that covers tattoos. Also while I was on campus yesterday I did see nursing students with white long sleeve undershirts. I'm pretty sure they're allowed but have to be white.

Awesome! Thank you so much. I was wondering about that. I've seen them too, I think that will probably be the route I'll go...a little steamy in July, but the price you pay for tattoos!

So you think I should go with the cardiology over the classic? The only thing I like about it is you can use it on adults/peds. I've heard it can get heavy and the classic is lighter.

I've had both and I like my cardio better. The quality for me personally is a lot clearer..you are able to pick up more minute sounds than the classic. I might ask some other peeps for a second opinion. What did you decide on for shoes? How about anyone else?

For shoes I really like the nurse mates. Especially the elana or the Sami. Going to see if the uniform shop has them before I order them online. Im going with a nursemates watch as well. What about you?

I'm looking at Nurse Mates- Caitlyn

KCoops from what I understand the shoes must have a back.

For people who have found there Stethoscope, Watch, and Shoes where have you purchased it and what brand? I ask because I know BC sells stethoscopes and watches so didn't know what the alternatives are and where people have been purchasing them.

Also, I know when I was considering my options for the medical field I was looking into other programs. When those people found out they were accepted into they program they started a Facebook group for all students accepted into the same graduating class. This made things a bit more convenient as you were able to see who was in your class, ask questions on the FB board, plan meet ups for study groups etc. Dunno if its something we should do, but just throwing the thought out there.
