  1. Do you think Broward College Pre's should have change or stayed the same?

      I like the credit change.
    • The preq's should have stayed the same.
    • I think it's great because it helps more students to become prepared for the nursing program.
    • This is just a setup for more students to fail and for the school to get more money out of us.
    • Doesn't matter

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen,

I'm starting this thread for students looking to start(ing), and (or) finishing there pre's by spring of 2013 at Broward College. Also for those who are entering (or) looking to enter the Nursing Program in Fall 2013.

We are exactly one year away from this program. So tell me what classes are you taking or have left?

I have Fall Math Intermediate, A&P II lab only, and Computers (need 6 credits to get loans.) Winter College Algebra or Statistics and Chem 1032& Chem lab

Summer Microbiology and Micro Lab.

Yesterday I visted advisement at South, and when I was leaving I got a wake up call that now I will only live, eat, breath nursing school. I never felt this way before. Once me and my advisor went over my Education Plan I started to feel that school going to get harder. Hey I can do this and so can you.

** Let me know your thoughts guys. Until....

@dying2bRN: I have been hearing that the vocab section was somewhat difficult, that's why I asked because I wanted to know if you found it similar to the study guide. Also, I know that there is a 6 month period to retake the exam if the score doesn't meet the schools standards. I know for the May 2013 entry that it stated that they need to score and 85% on Reading, and 80% on Math and etc., does that apply to us? Although, it wasn't stated on the admission worksheet for the August entry and beyond. That 6 month is a killer, unlike before you could have retaken the section to improve your score within 24-72hrs, but now you have to wait. That really sucks.

To quickly answer a few of your questions, the only guide I used was the Evolve HESI exam review which I ordered a few months ago from Amazon. I found it to be quite helpful. I also took a few Quizlet exams online, but that was about it. I wanted to prepare more, but I was anxious to get this over with to see where I stand! lol They give you 4 hours to complete the test, which is a sufficient amount of time. I found the Vocab section to be the toughest of all..but I guess it is different for each individual. For example, I only got an 86% :( and my friend got a 92%. But on the Grammar section I received a 100% :) and my friend got a 87%. I hope my overall 91.20% will be enough...All my requirements are finished. FutureNurse & Juliansmom, have you finished the pre-req's? If anyone is planning on turning in their application this Fri. March 1st, don't, because Health Admission is closed on Friday. In fact, they told me they will be closed for spring Break until March 11th when school resumes. Juliansmmom2011--- No you can not send documents separate. You need to hand in a sealed transcript to admissions, & attach a copy of your HESI scores to your application. I am not sure if they still accept HOSA certificates, but I will attach mine anyways, just in case. FuturenNurseS.brown...there were a few conversions like how many ounces in 6 pints, but nothing too crazy. There were also a few questions about military time. If you study and if you did well in A&P, then you should have no problems with this test. Well time to study for a midterm tomorrow...Not sure if I was of any help to you, but best of luck!!!

Dying2bRN, I've completed everything but Micro. and lab and College Algebra, which I'm currently taking now.

I do have a question about the registration process. Even if you're a student at BC and they've already received all your transcripts from previous school, do you still have to turn in the application with your transcripts?

FutureNurseS.Brown, Sorry I did not respond sooner, but I was on a cruise for Spring Break. To answer your question, if you are a B.C. student, and if they already have your transcripts on file, I do not believe you have to turn in more transcripts with the application. I turned my app. in yesterday, and all I had to do was attach a copy of my HESI scores & my HOSA certificate from high school. She immediately entered me on the computer under "limited application" where it said "application in review." So now I just sit & stew!!! Just to let you know, the advisor (at Central) said we will know the results June 14th...Hope I helped?

Sorry I didn't answer sooner but I was on a Spring Break Cruise. Yes, the vocabulary is similar to the study guide, and the scores you mentioned do apply to us. The 6 month wait is a killer, & you can only take it 1 more time. I turned my app. in yesterday, and after talking to a few people, I have the feeling that this app. pool may be a little smaller because of the new requirements. Not everyone has had the required Math...I'm sure you will do well on the HESI!

Thank you so much for responding. With school and this whole nursing process is just making me so nervous. It really sucks that they changed the exam requirement, but at the same time I can understand why. The reason why I put so much emphasis on the vocabulary, its due to the fact that I have read horror stories about it such as coming across words they never seen in their life (maybe exaggerating). I will take your word about it since you are more familiar with it then I am. Fingers cross...:nailbiting:

@ dying2bnRN, that's okay, thanks for getting back to me when you did :)!!!! Now I don't have to worry about gathering all my transcripts.

@ Juliansmom2011, I am in the same boat as you are. I am EXTREMELY NERVOUS about taking the HESI as well, I don't know what to do with myself :nailbiting: :nailbiting: :nailbiting:. I wish I wouldn't have put it off for so long, because the new requirements wouldn't have applied. But what's done is done and now we just have to keep faith, that we'll do great on the first try. Good Luck !!!

By His Grace all things are Possible...Seriously. if we put forth the effort, we should have nothing to worry about.

Anyone else taking Micro / Lab during the waiting period over the summer? I signed up for Micro with Lab and College Algebra while I wait. I take the HESI April 6th, I am really nervous about the math although I hear there are not too many conversions. I keep hearing vocab is hard, I have the Evolve HESI book but the words are easy and there aren't too many words at that. I am doing Micro online and not too excited with the reviews I see for my professor.

No, I am actually taking it this semester. As for the HESI I had the same feeling about the Vocabulary as well, but who knows what may happen. Good luck to you.

I have been reading through these posts and have noticed that a few people are applying without already taking their prerequisite micro and algebra course. I have spoken to an advisor about this and since the micro and algebra grades are included in the science GPA the grades need to be final before submitting an application. For everyone applying and trying to take these courses this summer I would definitely get a second opinion from an advisor..may save you time and money.

@Juliansmom2011. Can you provide a little insight into you HESI experience?

Hello,

I haven't taken the HESI exam as of yet; I am still preparing.

As to the statement you mentioned above, if you have been accepted, to the school that is, and been evaluated, you should be able to see what was accepted on your Degree Audit towards the NP. Some advisors may not be aware of the changes so my advice would be sending the Dean of Nursing an email just to make sure.

Also, how far along are you?

Anyone know how the A&P part was? I've been studying for that, math and vocab the most. I can't even imagine what kind of questions are on the HESI for the A&P section...I don't know what to expect. Most people say the whole thing was easy but I don't like to just lay back and expect to get a 90 based on that.
