  1. Do you think Broward College Pre's should have change or stayed the same?

    • 0
      I like the credit change.
    • The preq's should have stayed the same.
    • I think it's great because it helps more students to become prepared for the nursing program.
    • This is just a setup for more students to fail and for the school to get more money out of us.
    • Doesn't matter

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen,

I'm starting this thread for students looking to start(ing), and (or) finishing there pre's by spring of 2013 at Broward College. Also for those who are entering (or) looking to enter the Nursing Program in Fall 2013.

We are exactly one year away from this program. So tell me what classes are you taking or have left?

I have Fall Math Intermediate, A&P II lab only, and Computers (need 6 credits to get loans.) Winter College Algebra or Statistics and Chem 1032& Chem lab

Summer Microbiology and Micro Lab.

Yesterday I visted advisement at South, and when I was leaving I got a wake up call that now I will only live, eat, breath nursing school. I never felt this way before. Once me and my advisor went over my Education Plan I started to feel that school going to get harder. Hey I can do this and so can you.

** Let me know your thoughts guys. Until....

I decided to order a couple of books that may help me out in the future. I purchased them from amazon and spent less that $10.00 for the both of them being that they are in Very Good but used condition I said hey why not. I will let you know if the price was a steal.

Via a member here in All Nurses There are something like 3 or 4 formats for NCLEX type questions that are detailed in these books. The nursing school questions are 1) know it, and 2) be able to take it farther and apply it, which is much different from the testing for non-nursing classes. For nursing, you almost never just "puke it back." You always have to evaluate, rule out choices, and often there are two answers that could be correct but you have to pick the most correct one for the circumstances in the question.

Okay that sounds great! I heard good reviews about the Fundamentals book. Thanks. Also, have you taken the hesi yet?

No I haven't but I plan on studying for it this month in order to take it next month.

@ Future Nurse S.Brown Welcome..

@ Fearless_Leader, thanks for the welcome!!

I am also studying for the HESI exam and I plan on taking it next month. Is anyone nervous? :nailbiting:

I am because I'm mentally over doing it, which is overwhelming me. I just want to get it over with so I can focus on other things.

I am taking Chem1032 , Mat1033 (in case I need to take the Algebra credit if it changes again and REL2300 ( my last elective needed according to the degree audit ) in Winter 2013. My Chemistry course is over 4/23/13 so I plan on applying to the nursing program within the app period of March -May for August 2013. I am trying to get in without the Micro as a pre req because the classes are twice a week for lecture and twice a week for lab and only day time classes. I work full time and can't afford to take that much time off work just for a pre req class, If i was in the actual program already it's different because then I know my time was not wasted on taking all these pre req classes and not being accepted after that. I took the HCP class at Sheridan Tech which I HIGHLY RECOMMEND. So all I need now is the HESI and to finish the Chem. Am I the only one not doing the Micro first to apply?

Hey :) What book are you using to study? I am looking online for a good one and I am not sure which one everyone is using. I know we are taking the Hesi A2 right? thats basically the same stuff as using the regular Hesi exam book right?

@ Juliansmom2011 I agree ^^^^. That 6 month wait period is what's getting to me. Praying for a great outcome the 1st time around, for us ALL.

@ Yankeesgirl907 In winter 2013 I am taking Micro with the lab (same instructor for both classes on the same day), MAC1105, REL2300, DEP2004 (all online), and HCP0001 @ BC (highly thinking about dropping this course and taking it at Sheridan Tech).

CHM1032 is no longer a required pre-req, but you do have to take this course before you take Micro (might as well have been kept as a required pre-req, if you ask me, LOL). You have the option of doing Micro in the summer or after you complete the program, which you may already know is highly recommended to do before starting the program. Now for the HESI exam I brought the study guide from BC and I also purchased a study guide from www.readyforthehesi.com, the makers of the exam.

On the PDF Q&A sheet it stated, "11. Can the test be retaken?Yes. Re-test is permitted after the initial unsuccessful testing result with an additional cost for the

test applied for every attempt. However, as of August 2013 will have a limit of only two (2) attempts

for the HESI Test with six (6) months between the first and second attempt. The second attempt

requires the HESI A2, Version 2."

This is still not clear to me, does this apply to future prospect who would be applying for 2014 because it says as of and not for the incoming August 2013. To me, that means we can retake it as many times, until August 2013. Do you understand what I'm saying?

As for the HCP 0001 I will try to get a waiver since I have a licence and still working as a tech.

@ Juliansmom2011, I completely understand what you're saying but according to this, http://www.broward.edu/admissions/Documents/PreRequisiteAndSelectionRequirements2013.pdf, it says for August 2013 applicants and beyond. It's really hard to figure out what information to follow because one form says this and another says something totally different.

In addition to that, for August 2013 and beginning with 2014, there's an SLS requirement.

@ Juliansmom2011, Can you post the link to the PDF Q&A sheet you're referring to?
