    Hey Guys!

So I'm new to this website but I came across your posts and I decided that I would write on here because I am going to be applying for the Broward College AS nursing program for the August 2013 term. I have so many questions and whenever I try calling bc they are no help at all!! Maybe you guys can help answer some of my questions? I finished all the prerequisites, passed the HESI, and I just finished the HCP core class. I believe all I have left to do is turn in my application but I have no idea where it is? When I went to North Campus the lady handed me a "Health Sciences Limited Access Application" is that the nursing application? And do I need to meet with an advisor before I submit the application? Sorry for all the questions, I currently go to another college in Fort Myers so it's hard for me to figure everything through the phone. Please write me back as soon as possible. Thanks guys!!
First things first... Welcome! It's nice to finally see someone also applying for BC's August 2013 lol..Yes, the Health Science Application is the Nursing application. Don't worry when I saw it I was like what?! It's one simple piece of paper. Just make sure when you hand it in that you are giving it to Health Science Admissions, attach any transcripts if you are not a current BC student, attach any certificates, and attach your HESI scores. Also, don't forget to specify which nursing program you are going for. Make sure every section you took for the HESI is at least the scores they are looking for and that your pre-req GPA is at least a 3.0. It is not necessary to meet with an adviser to apply..so if you pretty much know that you are ready to apply just go ahead an apply but if you are unsure about anything you could email the health science department or make an appointment with an adviser (preferably one in the health science department as they will be the most accurate with information). You might get conflicting info from regular advisers. Oh and if you are not a current BC student you will have to apply to BC then apply to the nursing program. If that's the case then you should probably take the time to see an adviser. The deadline to apply is May 15!

You should be able to navigate through this link and find any other questions you might have.. If not someone here can probably assist you!

    Hello luckiduck807 & welcome !!!
Everything Cathydotcom stated is good advice to follow!

Now I have a question, I don't know why I haven't asked this question before , but what exactly is covered during the HCP course? I'm just curious because I'm trying to decide if I should take this course or not, even though I'm exempt.

    Thanks Cathydotcom,
I already registered for her class this summer. I was taking micro this semester but my professor was just terrible. I could have passed with a C, but I need an A to keep my GPA up.

I took Micro at BC and I got a B in it... I loveee the professor I took it with because she was very passionate and gave tons of extra credit. I didn't even have the book and I was able to manage that grade lol. Very sweet and kind. Her name is *******. I believe she also teaches at Nova

The HCP course is a very easy class to take and honestly if I was exempt I would take it anyways. There is no grade you just either pass or fail so it won't effect your GPA. You cover aseptic hand washing techniques, putting on your gloves in a sterile environment, moving a patient in bed, blood pressure, putting a patient in a wheel chair from the bed, and few other things I can't remember. All of those skills are good to get familiar with before the program. There are 4 written quizzes and each skill you learn has to be demonstrated to the professor. It really isn't too difficult but it's all skills worth knowing before getting into nursing school in my opinion.

Good luck! I hope you have as good of an experience as I did. Try to keep an open mind about everything.. I think it helps me anyways. Every time I begin a course with a "I hate math.. english..etc etc" I never do as good as when I start off saying "micro is the best subject ever and maybe I'll change my career path to microbiologist" lol... I'm not crazy I swear! Everyone has a method to their madness

Thanks Cathydotcom!! I'm glad I asked this question and I'm glad someone answered. Although I know a few of these skills, there are a lot of things covered in this course that I don't know, so now I know that I do indeed need to complete this course. Thanks again!

I wish I'd taken Micro with GH, maybe the experience would've been a lot better than what I experienced with my Micro professor. Micro turned out to be the worst experience of all my college years and I've been in college a long time.

    Good luck Dolce37!!!

I am going to hand in my application for Fall next week but I haven't heard any word about whether I am exempt from the HCP class. I turned in the documentation in December and am afraid it will be lost in the shuffle when they go to review my application. Anyone else in the same boat?

What campus did you turn yours into? I turned mine in at Central Campus. However I was told by T.G. (I can only use initals per T.O.S) that my HCP waiver won't show on my Degree Audit until I get closer to my the program I chose. In addition I would say if you are putting your application in. Please give the Nursing department a call especially T.G. she doesn't have the final say so, but at central she is the one who took my certificate and letter from my job. So... to sum it all up tell her it needs to be added to your Degree Audit asap. I hope that answers your question.

Sorry for the late response, I've been busy with finals. I did pass Micro, but with what grade, I'm not sure yet as my professor is super slow with posting grades, Wednesday was our last class.

PSY2012 is needed to graduate it is a social behavior class. We need a social behavior and humanities class in addition to other required courses for graduation at the end of the program. It is best to get it done before you start because you wont have time during the actual nursing program to focus on anything else. I was done with Math but they added more College Algebra on to replace CHEM1032 as a pre-req. CHEM1032 is still needed in order to do Micro which has also been added on as a pre-req. Seeing an adviser and creating an education plan helps. Be sure to see one that is very knowledgeable about the required classes for the nursing program though. Some of them will make you take classes you don't need which cost you more time.
