  1. Do you think Broward College Pre's should have change or stayed the same?

      I like the credit change.
    • The preq's should have stayed the same.
    • I think it's great because it helps more students to become prepared for the nursing program.
    • This is just a setup for more students to fail and for the school to get more money out of us.
    • Doesn't matter

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen,

I'm starting this thread for students looking to start(ing), and (or) finishing there pre's by spring of 2013 at Broward College. Also for those who are entering (or) looking to enter the Nursing Program in Fall 2013.

We are exactly one year away from this program. So tell me what classes are you taking or have left?

I have Fall Math Intermediate, A&P II lab only, and Computers (need 6 credits to get loans.) Winter College Algebra or Statistics and Chem 1032& Chem lab

Summer Microbiology and Micro Lab.

Yesterday I visted advisement at South, and when I was leaving I got a wake up call that now I will only live, eat, breath nursing school. I never felt this way before. Once me and my advisor went over my Education Plan I started to feel that school going to get harder. Hey I can do this and so can you.

** Let me know your thoughts guys. Until....

I met with an advisor at Chamberlain and I know it would be just a little cheaper if I transferred my credits from Broward over which she already told me they take, however she said that when it comes time for the on campus classes they are from 9-4 about 4 days a week ! Can someone please explain to me how I am going to pay my rent on that ?!?! How do people do it ? I just looked at every school in south florida for nursing and MOST only require a 70 to pass the HESI !!!! I would of gotten in ! and you too ! Oh due to me taking the test April 6th, that means I cannot take the HESI again until October 6th which means I MISS THE DEADLINE for the Nursing programs in January 2014 ! which means I can't start until MAY !!!!!!! a whole year literally wasted on absolutely nothing !!!!!!!!!!!!! I am just so mad words cannot describe.

Do you know anyone that attends Chamberlain? If so, you should ask how they are coping with the program financially. Still take the HESI when the time comes just to be on the safe side. If your overall exam score is above a 70% then you should have anything to worry about being accepted onto Chamberlain. Try to order the Teas book and study all the content, and just try. I know how you feel, and I'm just trying to move forward.

Hi Yankeesgirl907... I'm so sorry that you're going through this. Have you thought about Nova? I don't think they require an entrance exam, but they do require additional classes. Nova was my back up school if I didn't get accepted into BC the first time around. I know it's very pricey, but if this is what you want than you may want to consider other schools in the mean time. You could take the pre-reqs for other nursing schools while you wait to retake the HESI so you're not just letting time pass by. Not to mention these classes will not be a waste because they are the same requirements you would eventually have to complete in order to do your BSN. Just a thought...

I really hope you feel better soon!

aw thanks :) Actually, i have considered Nova in the past but really did not think i would get accepted there for whatever reason. This summer in Broward I am taking DEP2004 - PSY2012 - MAC1105 - ENC1102 so that i can transfer more credits to another school so I would not have to pay those crazy prices for credits. I figured well why waste time..might as well use this in FIU,FAU or Chamberlain. I know for sure they transfer to those three schools. I am going to look into Nova again actually. Did you notice that all the schools now only offer BSN ? Even Palm Beach State College (former PBCC) has it ! Is Broward like the only school left on this planet that still offers AS ?! Did you get into Broward or Nova at all ?

Are you sure about palm beach state college that it is just bsn or is it asn that you wil graduate with and then you can go back for RN to bsn because that is what broward is

I would definitely tell you to consider to Nova before Chamberlain to be honest. Chamberlain is more money and the reputation is not solid compared to other private/public nursing programs. Also, Nova accepts twice a year and I believe they will let you submit your application as long as you are in the process of completing all the required pre-reqs. However, the pre-req classes must be fully completed by their cut off date (you would need to clarify with the school).

I did not apply to Nova because I was accepted into Broward's program last May. As for the financial situation of getting through nursing school... You're going to have to get a part-time weekend or evening job that is flexible or take out living loans. Broward is a full-time day program so you would have the same problem as Chamberlain when it comes to your schedule. I believe Miami-Dade is one of the few schools that offer a part-time RN program so you may want to check with them. Nursing school is very rigorous and it is extremely difficult to work at all during school. I understand your concerns though because I also have a child so taking out living loans was the route I took.

And most schools including Broward offer the RN-BSN track. The only schools that offer the straight BSN programs are universities at the moment. PBCC, BC, and MD are all bridge programs so you must complete an AS program first in order to complete their BSN bridge programs.

I am still going to submit my application with my scores..I actually have nothing to lose. I know I wont get in but really won't hurt if I try..maybe you should too !

Look into Barry University in miami as well.It is a Accredited BSN program and I do not think they require the Hesi or Teas. Its around the price of Nova but cheaper then Chamberlain

ASN then BSN or RN to BSN.

I applied to Nova last night !!! Why did I not do this before?! All you need is a 3.0 to apply ! I would much rather go to Nova than Chamberlain so I hope I get in. I registered for MAC1105,DEP2004,PSY2012, ENC1102 in Broward to take over the summer but I hope these credits transfer to Nova !!! Actually I hope I am not taking on too many classes that I don't even need. I was taking these because I know for a fact FIU, FAU and Chamberlain require the same classes...as for Nova...their course codes are completely different so I hope to hear from admissions soon. Like an idiot I applied for " Entry Level BSN" and not " Pre-Nursing" because I am missing just a few of Nova's pre reqs but I am almost there!!! I hope they at least place me in the Pre Nursing program and not turn me away because I applied for the incorrect program ...ugh. I want to thank you though for mentioning this to me because I really don't think I would of looked into it ! The hell with Broward at this point..it's a shame because I finished ALL of my classes I needed to get into Broward and even was accepted to Phi Theta Kappa :(

That great! Don't worry about it; and you will finish with your BSN in just the same amount of time as BC finishes with they're ASN! Good Luck to you. Now move forward!

You applied to the correct program. Nova accept students with pending pre-req. When I was accepted I was still taking 4 pre-requesites.. At the end you will have a higher chance of landing a job because you will have a BSN.

I hope I get in ! my overall GPA is a 3.4 :( but my pre-req GPA is a 3.67. My grades did not post yet for winter 2013 at Broward, they will at the end of April, I hope this won't bring my GPA down...Chem1032 is hard as hell. Stupid Mastering Chemistry assignments are killing me and that's supposed to be to boost the grade according to the teacher. I hope they even look at me with this GPA !

yankees girl, r u in chm1032 with LC ?

I have a friend who got accepted for Fall 2013 with a 3.3 gpa and a 3.5 in the pre-reqs. Chemistry kill me also. I got a C but i also had a horrible professor. Thats the only C I have on my transcript. Nova usually works fast and give notice of interview within 2-3 week after receiving application and all documents
