Broward College applicants for Fall 2009

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Did anyone already turn in there applications for Fall 2009 @ B.C.? because I am turning mine in next week before the deadline and now I have to wait AGAIN and keep continually looking at my e-mail and the myBC account for the Limited Access Program everyday hopefully I get in THIS TIME being my 3rd time :yeah:

leaving.....

can you wear the white sneakers that you slip on and have no back, but still look like sneakers in the front? no

or do they have to wear a back? no also, can you wear crocs like some of the nurses do, in white of course? no what about the other nursing type shoes they sell at uniform stores, as long as they're white?

your shoes have to be closed in completely. no holes or openings at all. you want your feet protected from any needle drops, blood spills, etc. i wear a leather new balance shoe. they're ugly but comfortable.

well u have not posted in this blog for a long time now, thats because i was still not accepted and didnt know to talk about. but saturday i went online and i saw that i was charged 20 dollars for application fee and 29 for drug test, i think that means Im in, at the orientation tburns told all the alternates that attended the meeting to send her an email letting her know which campus we prefered to attend. She told us that 9 out of 10 times all the alternates will get in. I plan to attend north campus. Has anyone gotten the perry and potter book yet. and leavingnurse congrats, ARE the math test or drug cals test that hard, I hear people speak of them like if you dont pass you fail the whole semestewr is that true.

How painful are titers? I'm nervous.

EVERYTIME I call BROWARD they tell me something different regarding the nursing program. I did not get into the program because of my stupid C dragging me down! Also how do they calculate the labs vs. classes?

Please help me to clarify:

These are my grades:

A&P 1 C

A&P L B

A&P 2 B

A&P L B

CHM B

ENC B

I want to retake A&P 1 - I am told it MUST be taken at a private college, not (public) such as FIU which someone indicated they did on this board.

What is correct?

I was also told that taking another Chemistry class would help my grade, and Microbiology does not help unless there is a tie.

Please help!:banghead:

you can take a&p 1 and 2 and the labs at keiser university its a 8 week program which includes the labs, its fast pace but if you study, you should get an A. Or u might just be able to take a$p 1 and the lab, then it would only be 4 weeks, its monday-friday all five days.

Fated-

The titer is just a blood test, so its like any normal blood draw. The vaccines can hurt depending on the vaccine. Tetorifice will leave your upper arm sore for a few days.

Helpinghand-

Basically, you take your grade (A=4, B=3, C=2) and then multiply that by the number of credits hours that class is. Do this for each class, and add all the answers together. Then divide that by the TOTAL number of credit hours for all the classes combined. That will be your pre-req GPA.

It will look like this, based on your grades:

AP 1 C 2 (grade) X 3 (credit hours) = 6

AP1L B 3 (grade) X 1 (credit hour) = 3

AP 2 B 3 (grade) X 3 (Credit hours) = 9

AP2L B 3 (grade) X 1 (credit hour) = 3

CHM B 3 (grade) X 3 (credit hours) = 9

ENC B 3 (grade) X 3 (credit hours) = 9

6 + 3 + 9 + 3 + 9 + 9 = 39

Total number of credit hours = 14

39/14= 2.78 and they will not round up when converting the GPA into points, so they will look at it like its a 2.7.

I've never heard you had to retake them at a private school, just that BC will not allow you to retake the course there. I've heard someone on the board say they were retaking classes at FIU. I think its up to the school you are retaking it at. I am pretty sure you can take them over as long as it wasn't taken at that school first.

Also, at BC, you can take a higher Chem class and they will use that grade if you want to.

I would suggest making an appointment with the health science advisor at your campus and asking them about retaking the classes at another school, rather than speaking with any advisor.

Thanks! Sunraygurl for the clarification on the grading.

Actually I did speak to the Dean of the program after I received a phone call from the admissions/advisor who was processing my request to be a transient student at FIU, so that I could retake A&P 1. The Dean did not know anything about admissions to his own program???unbelievable!! but he spoke with the admissions/advisor who called me, and she indicated it must be taken at a private college. I also saw on here that someone was retaking it at FIU...so that is what I tried to do.

I have called Keiser, and city college who want over $2000 for one class, and don't have days that I can do it because of my work schedule.

Also do you know if the additional chemistry class will replace the chemistry that I already taken, or will it be added into my grade?

Thanks again for your input!

Hmmmm, I don't know. I don't know what the advantage is to making you go to a Private school vs a Public one. That doesn't make any sense, at least not to me.

What campus do you regularly attend?

I would suggest you get a second opinion. There are people who work at BC and give out wrong info all the time. I usually triple check info just in case.

I don't know who you spoke with but I would try someone in admissions that specifically deals with health science. I know the name of the person you can contact at North campus (L. Kennealy) , but I do not know of anyone at South or central specifically. I would also try going into the health science dept at your campus, and I would go to another campus as well to double check and ask. You could even email T. Burney and see if she knows.

The only other option I see, because of the costs of going to private school, is getting your LPN license. I think its like $6000, but thats 3 classes at the private school. Then you can apply to the LPN-Transition program and you will get in 100% that way. Last option is you can apply for Jan and May as well, and wait and see. May was less competitive, I think either because it is a shorter semester or people didn't know there was a May option (since its new). I think there were people getting in May with around a 2.8.

Wow, I am really still just confused as to why you HAVE to retake at a private school.

I am attending North Campus.

Unfortunately, I did go to the Health and Sciences Department several times...and that is where I am getting the information. Not from general advisors. It is so frustrating! I just sent an email to Chinara, whom I spoke with last week when I went to the campus. I am asking her about the private/public thing.......do you have the email for your contact?

Thanks!

I just emailed L. Kenealy and asked her myself. I'll let you know what she says when she responds.

most of the emails are the first initial of the person's first name, and most, if not all, of the last name. L's first name actually starts with an E. the rest of the email address is her full last name. (I don't think we're supposed to put the emails on here).

But I just emailed her, so we'll see. She's at N. Campus, so you can go into advisement and make an appt to see her (she's usually too busy for walkins). But I think I had to wait a week to see her, so its not like she's booked for months. Chinara would be the person I'd talk to in Health science, but if she's the one who said that, then I don't know. Maybe in this case the advisors might know better since its a transcript issue instead of an actual nursing program question??? LOL I'd talk to Liz (the person I emailed, health science advisor).

I wanted to ask something about the HIV/AIDS course. It is okay to take them at ceufast.com as long as they meet the 4 certificate hours, right?

I'm aware there is a 1 hour one, and was wondering if that was the one Twana was talking about to make sure we don't take that in confusion to the 4 hour one.
