you can apply on line through the miami dade college -medical campus website. try looking on the www.baptisthealth.org website. the lady in charge of the nursing program, her name is maria suarez rn,bsn, msn. she is a nice lady who has been with baptist for many many years. you have to find something to set yourself apart so that if and when you go on an interivew, they will remember you. the baptist program gives you a asn and prepares you for the boards. i do not know what the passing rate is for them though. if you are coming with your prereqs you definitely have an edge. even if you go off campus, to the original medical campus, you will be doing most of your clinicals at baptist, except for psych, i do not remember for sure but i do not think they have a psych facility. i will look into it and post more.

you can look on the website under the scholars program link. you could probably access it through the miami dade college website since they are the ones that actually are bestowing the degree upon the graduates of that program. maria suarez rn bsn msn is the director of the department of nursing education at baptist health south florida. the "school" is on the baptist hospital campus on kendall drive here in miami. the classes are heald in the building behind the main building. that building also holds the gym and the department of human resources. the name of the building escapes me. if you are here in miami, you are better off just going there in person. if you are standing in front of them it is more difficult for them to blow you off or just forget to call you back. they believe that they do not have a shortage of nurses since they do not have a shortage of students so they put you in the position of pursuing them. it is worth it. make a pain of yourself. be tenacious and persistent. you will get there. read everything carefully before you sign anything. keep copies of everything you sign. write down all the questions you have for them just like they will for you. they have a bad habit of talking down to you and if i had to do something different, i would not let them get that "power" position over me. they had a bad habit of talking to you like a parent to a child and you have to set the tone early. that advice goes for any interview anywhere. but, baptist, even though they are a large organization here in south florida, they really are a small town. everyone knows everyones business after a while and you have to protect yourself. you want them to hire you, yes, give you a chance, yes. you want to be an asset to their organization while building your skill set and experience, yes. but, you do have alternative, and options and opportunitites. and you must remember that. they need you just like you need them. i hope this was helpful.

i thought i said that yes i was a baptist scholar but i graduated from um so i did not go to the program at baptist. maybe i was not clear. i did apply to the accelerated program at mdc before i went to um. i always believe that you should try every door and eventually one will open. looking for a job or applying to nursing school is a job in itself and i learned alot about many organizations. here i can share what i learned and hopefully be of help to other people who are traveling the same road.

and wondering about "mom12"

i feel i should explain something, medical campus is the main site for the nursing program. mdc is the institution granting the degree. baptist has an agreement with mdc to be a satelite of mdc but you are going to the main campus. do not give up. keep calling and leaving messages and what is even better is if you can visit the campus. the nursing building is behind the hospital in the building that holds human resources and the gym. if you are there in front of them, it is more difficult for them not to answer the phone or call you back. you apply to mdc and then, if you want for baptist to pay for it, then you apply to be a baptist scholar. if you are granted a "scholarship" then baptist will pay the expenses for you to attend school (mdc at the baptist campus), and you will do al of your clinicals at baptist except for psych since baptist does not have a psych facility yet. then, upon completion, you will apply for a job, ( even though you will owe them one year, you still have to apply for a job), and you will have to attend the mac (multi specialty acute care) program and complete that. if you want er or icu then you have to apply for the leap program. they are both a combination of class room and clinical hours and you must do well. then you will interview with the various units. you will be assigned a preceptor, once you are assigned a unit and shift. and then the party really begins. the lady in charge of the educational program is maria suarez rn bsn msn. she is a nice lady who worked her way up the ladder and she also went to mdc. i hope this was helpful. but it is a mission.
