Applying for a license in Florida

    Hello Everyone,

I just finished nursing school (Dec 05')and have my BS in nursing. I have not yet taken the NCLEX exam for New York, but I plan on it before I move to Florida this summer. I read on the Florida State Board for Nursing that they do not have reciprocity with any other state insted they have endorsements. I am still unclear with this. Can somebody please explain to me what I would have tod o to get endorsed? Do I have to take another state exam to work in Florida even though I will already have passed the NCLEX (God willing) from NY? I also believe that I read from the FSBON website that if an individual is coming from a state where the standard is higher than Florida than I think they take the individual into consideration. Is this accurate ? Thank you for any help in this matter.

NCLEX exam has reciporcity, menaing that your score is accepted in all states and you never have to retake the exam. Licenses do not have reciprocity. You still need to apply to Florida's BON with the License by Endorsement application.

Thank you for your response. Do I have to take any additional exams once I file the application ?

Actually if you dont ever plan on practicing in NY and have yet to take the NCLEX exam you can just apply for licensure by exam through FL. Here is the web site. http://www.doh.state.fl.us/mqa/nursi...c_reqExam.html

I actually know a nurse here that did exactly that. Either way the process is slow ie takes at least 3 months, he actually told me that if he would have went the test for NY the get endorsement that it would have been more like 6 months.

    HI EVERYONE,
I AM A LPN CURRENTLY IN A LPN TO RN BRIDGE PROGRAM HERE IN GEORGIA. THIS IS MY LAST SEMESTER AND I CAN'T WAIT TO GRADUATE ON MAY 5TH :hatparty: . I AM SERIOUSLY THINKING ABOUT RELOCATING TO FLORIDA AFTER GRADUATION. MY FAMILY AND I VACATION THERE ABOUT 3 TIMES A YEAR ANYWAY SO I SAY, WHY NOT JUST MOVE THERE. I WANT TO TAKE FLORIDA'S NCLEX. IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE THAT I NEED TO DO BEFORE MOVING TO FLORIDA BEFORE I CAN PRACTICE AS A NURSE?

Hiya. I am in NY and just applied for FL licensure Jan 26. I did speak with one hospital that said that as long as I am licensed in another state -they could hire me as a 'RN Tech' until I received my paperwork. I just wondered where you planned on going? Curious what you know about the hospitals, because at this point, if I took a job, I'd just be guessing!

That is what I am doing.. I live in MOntana but I am moving to FL in April.. so I just bypassed montana all together (since I was not going to work here) and did my paperwork via mail with Florida.. It was relatively painless.. I take my NCLEX tomorrow though so lets just see what I have to say about it being painless then..
