I just scored an interview at Orange Park Medical Center for the ED. I was wondering if anyone here worked there, and if so, if anyone had any tips for the interview or the facility in general.

Thanks!

anyone?

I interviewed at OPMC when I graduated three years ago. The interview consisted of 4 administrators and a round table discussion. They asked questions about my background, critical situations, chest pain (MONA)......I felt like an interrogation. And after I passed that round, I had to take a dosage calc exam. It was kinda hard.

I was hired for a med/surg floor and turned it down. I was really not impressed with the interview process. I felt like they were drilling me instead of getting to know me.

On the other hand, I have friends that work there and really like it. Good Luck.

What units do your friends work in? Do you happen to know what kind of base rate they're making?

I'm trying to find out what kind of pay rate I can expect to be offered, if they do extend a job offer.

Hello. I have worked for Orange Park Medical Center on and off for 3 + years. I have also worked at other hospitals in the Jacksonville area. OPMC gets a lot of bad publicity, but I prefer OPMC to the other places I have worked. Every place has its problems. What you get at OPMC that you won't find anywhere else is a small community hospital with nurses who live in and around the community. Sure, you can drive in traffic to a larger hospital with "reputable associations", but things are really changing at OPMC and they are trying to attract nurses who are the best and who are willing to help OPMC be the hospital of choice. Further, I interviewed at OPMC and did not have a round table quiz show type interview. I met the nurse manager of the ER who is really a great guy. I met the Director who is also very nice. I met the ER educator. I then interviewed with the CNO who worked for many years on the floor in the ICU. She really wants to hire the best nurses. I have nothing negative to say. The "stuff" you find that drives you nuts at other facilities is the same "stuff" that has been driving nurses to Margaritaville for years. Good luck in whatever you decide!

Wow, thanks for the great reply! I really like what you have to say, it sounds like the ideal place for me. I like that it's on the upswing, and that they're really moving to improve the workings of the facility. This strong improvement attitude alone brings OPMC above other hospitals I'm familar with.

Everything I've heard and read sounds great, but I still haven't heard much on what they're paying nowadays. What price range can I expect in the ED?

I am not sure really. It seems like they started nurses at $21 - $23 but I am just guessing from breakroom gossip. I do know that they try to be competetive with other hospitals, and I definitely saw a pay increase when I went to work there. Sorry, I wish I could be of more help.

That sounds great, just what I wanted to hear. How are the shift differentials for nights and weekends?

Do you know if they offer sign-on bonuses, tuition reimbursement, or school loan assistance?

Hi, The shift differentials are $2.75, $3.50, and $2.00 weekends. I do not know about loan reimbursement, but they do have reimbursement for classes upon completion with a set yearly max. I am not sure what the yearly max is, but it is competetive. You have to make an A or B in the course, but nursing schools generally require that anyway. Good luck!

I talked to my friend working there and there is no sign on bonus, but you do have to sign a 2 yr contract.

Sign a 2 yr contract for what?! I can understand if they gave you a bonus or paid for your college or paid for relocation....but a 2 yr contract for the priviledge of working there?!?!? That is pathetic. :(

I agree. That's insane. I would want them to at least pay for my school, if not give me a $3000-$5000 bonus in addition to paying off my $4000 in school loans. Sign me up for 3 years!
