Anyone from Galen College of Nursing in Tampa Area

U.S.A. Florida

Hello everyone! Is anyone currently attending Galen College of Nursing in St.Petesburg/Tampa Bay Area? If you aren't currently attending, but have in the past? I would love to here your feedback, too. I just wanted to know how you feel about the school and what your experience has been like. I will be taking my cpat at Galen tomorrow. I'm very excited and hopefully all goes well.

dont go. trust me-find something else thats cheaper and less stressful. i go to galen now and its horrible-i call it 'boot camp for nurses' and 'survivor' since everyones been dropping like flies.

Is it that hard or is it that the instructors/ instituition are purposely hard? How is it going to school 8am to 5pm vs 7;30 am to 2:30pm? Is it organized?

I know that their PNCLEX pass rate is the highest in the Tampa Bay area, is the stress worth knowing that you will probably pass? How many students are in your class vs how many have dropped?

Sorry for all of the questions but I know someone who is interested in Galen.

well thats actually the reason a lot of people want to go there so bad-bc of the great pass rate. but what you dont know is that the reality is very very different. in order for them to keep that pass rate, they pretty much get rid of everyone they think might not get a good grade on their nclex. im telling you right now, the only way you can pass is if you really really really want to be a nurse, bc its THAT stressing. and i know a lot of friends who go to different nursing schools and they think im joking when i tell them what goes on over here...again, i DONT recommend it-we have lost about 70% of the class so far...

wow, that says it all. Of couse they probably get to krrp most of the $16k too. strike this school of the list.

Hi there,

I have had the honor of working side by side with two recent Galen graduates, and to say the least, was totally blown away with their knowledge and skill. These two woman, know their stuff, and they are strong! If i didn't know any better, i would have NEVER known that they were new RN graduates! So to those of you who are beginning your journey with Galen, good-luck and work hard as you will be rewarded when you pass your NCLEX exam the first time! I give Galen a five star rating!

Last post, then I have to go study A&P I, really!

I called Galen today because I was just blown away by the cost. You first have to go through the LPN program ($16,685) which is 1 year. Does that include books, uniforms, etc? Or is that just tuition?

Once you finish that, then you can take the LPN to RN bridge ($21,200) which is 15 more months. Again, same questions...

Then I called SPC where I'm taking my Nursing pre-reqs, to inquire as to whether or not they accept Galen's credits towards the BSN program. They absolutely do NOT. I know several have mentioned University of Phoenix as an alternative. In the real world is it just the piece of paper that matters or is it also the school's reputation as well as the piece of paper?

I just can't justify paying and going into debt that much ~$38K for a RN "degree" when SPC costs under $6,000! Galen - 2-1/4 years to finish, SPC - 3 years. And I can go to any Florida University (doesn't have to be SPC) for my BSN. Or Phoenix if it's a well-respected school.

Anyone know about the employment statistics for Galen after graduation/passing NCLEX?

Does anyone know what the acceptance rate is? How hard is test? I moving to tampa in Feb and hope to start the class on May 16th 2010.

i am a current galen lpn student graduating this august 2011. if anyone wants an opinion from a current student, feel free to message me! :heartbeat i have had 99% good experiences with this school, the 1% was part of incompetent financial aid staff, but the school went out of their way to correct the problem, and i now no longer hate financial aid. :jester: i will say, i never realized how much potential i had until i went to galen. i truly believe that i couldn't have picked a better education than from galen. yes it is hard, but definately worth it and do-able. i have had some incredible clinical experiences, (bayfront hospital & nursing homes) and passed the hesi with flying colors. i truly feel prepared for the boards, and i feel like being at galen i have learned the best methods possible for me to make great grades. ignore the disgruntled students posting on those message boards because i have not experienced any of that. i won't fill up this entire page lol but if you have any questions message me or reply on here. (i just signed up for allnurses.com today so i am still figuring out how to work this message board stuff.) :heartbeat

are you talking about the pax-pn?

i just took the test for the rn bridge program at galen, do you think that this school is a good school to go to for the rn program? how hard are the classes exactly? cause some of the people out there are sounding like its the hardest program there is. i wouldn't want to go to a school that sets up their students for failure. i am willing to work hard for my license of course, but i wouldn't want to go there if their constantly trying to find faults from their student, and then terminate them. are you planning to go to galen for your rn as well?

please reply. it would be greatly appreciated! thanks! :)

I was going to go to Erwin for the LPN program but nervous because they do not have a bridge program in their school. I am reading a lot of good things about Galen and I'm thinking I may try this school instead. I'm so confused

I would apply at both schools... But, Galen first. Its kind of hard to get in Nursing School now. More options are better then no options.
