U.S.A. Florida

Just wanting to connect & be/get encouragement from other hopefuls who are applying to the program. Anyway, who's up for stalking the mailman with me?

No letter! Kind of frustrating, Oh well, part of the process. Gonna go to the gym to work out this frustration and anxiety.

no letter :(

No letter.....:(

I heard that make their decision the first week in October and we get the letters in the middle of October

@roseyfaulkingham. That's probably right . Admissions however has told many different things to different people here on this board. I'm just working with the ideal that it will come one of these days.

From PHCC website : "The Selection Committee will meet in mid October for January applications, and in mid June for August applications and letters should be sent out by the end of October for January admission and late June for August admission." This was right on target for the fall, as I got my letter on June 29th.

About about we start new discussions instead of driving ourselves crazy waiting on the letter. Like Jazacmom said it may not be here for weeks.

Why does everyone want to be a nurse??? Any idea where you want to work?

Jazacmom: Can you tell us what clinicals are like? What kind of places? What do you do?

Jen, brilliant idea!!!

I think I would want to work in Oncology or with the elderly.

Good thinking :) I started working in a psych hospital after graduation so mental health field will always be near and dear to my heart, however, I'd love to work with new borns and little kids as an RN.

Jen-G,

We have been in clinicals at the hospital for two weeks now. Before that we were in lab. They have changed the curriculum this year and instead of learning skills a little at a time, we learn a bulk of them right up front, which can seem overwhelming if you have never been doing this sort of work. We work in groups and have our peers sign us off and then the faculty signs us off for skills. Plus, you also have to be signed off again in the hospital by your instructor.

We have observations starting this week including wound care, rehab, OR, and ER. All we do is observe there.

Being in the hospital is intimidating at first, but it is getting better as we go along. We will be doing everything from making beds to inserting Foley catheters and changing dressings on wounds. We also have to make care plans at the end of the day on Thursday for the patient that we took care of during the day (this can take a long time).

There is a lot to learn and you have to get comfortable fast because it is a sink or swim type of feeling.

Hope you hear soon as to whether or not you got into the program.

I love reading this type of stuff. It almost makes the dream a reality. Thanks for taking the time to share, Jazacmom!

I am hoping to work in hospice. I've wanted to do this since 1996 & finally had the opportunity to go back to school. I'm afraid if I don't make it I don't know what to do with my life. I have no backup plan and feel like I'm too old to keep trying to get in. Sorry to ramble on, just really nervous.
