It's kind of crazy that they're changing it while people are applying like this, but the way the program is set up currently, that first summer's schedule is kind of brutal. I'm happy they're bringing the program more in line w/ the traditional BSN for the initial few semesters... I feel like it'll give us more opportunity to get a good, strong foundation at the start of the program.

I think you're right that they're going to bring the program more in line with the rest of the schools in terms of prerequisites and preparation. They're one of very few I've seen that doesn't require the lifespan psych, nutrition, etc classes... they're on the fore of the MSN->DNP shift for advanced practice nursing, I would not be surprised if they're revamping their BSN too to make it more competitive and in line with other top schools' programs.

And to answer the other question about GPA, I don't know, but I sure hope so. My undergrad GPA was a 3.28. Not amazing. But I've taken a heavy prereq load since then, with a 4.0, and my GRE score should be pretty high (my practice tests have all been in the 1300-1350 range) so I'm hoping that will sway things in my favor. The admissions counselor couldn't give me any solid numbers on the admitted students' profile, though I did ask.

Just wondering if I should even bother taking the GRE, if I don't stand any change with my GPA.
I'm currently enrolled. 3.03 and 1150 got me in. Go for it!

Hey guys!

Just found this thread. I'm currently in the program and I thought I'd try answering a few of your questions.

Getting admitted:
I had a 3.72 GPA
1430 GRE (710 Verbal, 720 Math, 5.5 Writing).
Prereqs: Anatomy and Physiology-both Bs, Stats-C+, Microbio-A
Undergrad major (at UF) anthropology, no health care experience.

I'm pretty sure my GRE was on the high end-from what I've heard, most people scored in the 1100-1200 range. I used a cheap book (Barron's Passkey to the GRE, I think) and the Powerprep software to study for the GRE. I took it around October or November I think.

Program changes:
There have been little bits of information dropped about this. I've heard mention of changing the pre-reqs, so they'll probably be essentially the same as most other schools/UF's generic program (chem, nutrition, psych, etc.) I don't think that will be implemented until the year after next at the earliest.

I didn't know they were changing the program to start in fall, but that would be a tremendous improvement in my mind. The first semester is the foundation for the program, but it's so intense that you forget half of it. If I could

Graduating in May:
I graduated a few days before the program started-that's no big deal, but it would have been really nice to have had some time off for myself before. There were several people that graduated in May though-one girl even went back home to her graduation ceremony the week after our classes started!

Guys in the program:

There were 55 people in our starting class, 10 male.

Hello, everyone! I just found this and I'm glad I did. I will be applying for 2010 also. Im retaking the GRE thursday to try and get a higher score. I am going to try and have my application in by November 15, even though that adds months of anxious waiting. Right now this is the only program I am applying to. I don't know why I have my heart set on moving to Gainesville.

Does it make a difference when you turn in your app?? I hadn't planned to turn mine in until January, but if it makes a difference...

I don't think it makes a difference when you turn your application in, so long as it's by the deadline. One of my professors actually faxed in my letter of rec on the day of the deadline.

No I won't be a problem if the application is in later. Some schools have a "priority deadline" that gets you a quicker review or rarely a quicker response. I just looked and UF doesnt have one but I will still get it in then.

The deadline is January 15th for a Fall 2010 start date not May 2010. This changes everything for me. Top priority has moved to last. If I wait until Fall 2010 I might as well attend my alma mater USF in Tampa. This is the only school I would of been wasting my time and $$$ for the GRE and I do not like standard test. Later G-ville prospects.
