Re: UF Accelerated BSN - May 2010 Applicants
Just found this thread!! I'm currently a senior at UF and am hoping to stay in Gainesville for nursing school as well. I finished my prereqs and am just now starting to freak out about the GRE!! Eeek. I know that 1000 is the requirement but I'm kinda wondering what the average score is for people who get accepted...

Re: UF Accelerated BSN - May 2010 Applicants
Well so it goes ... due to some recent changes on my end, I will unfortunately no longer be able to apply to UF in 2010. ... Main reason is that I find myself unable to complete my prereqs this fall in time for application. I was going to finish this fall but my full-time job's demands in the next 4 months will be too much for me to carry 7 credits or maybe even one class (and this is one reason why I can't stand my current career and want to leave to pursue nursing, my true calling) ... and I would not want to take my chances of getting less than an A. I know I can take one in the spring, but it seems as if I would not be able to finish that course before UF starts anyway. So at the very least I am looking at applying to start in 2011, but in the interim I may end up applying to another school out of state that I have been excited about that starts next fall rather than waiting a whole year before applying once again. But who knows what will happen?
Good luck to all of you applying for 2010! | | No. 22 |

Re: UF Accelerated BSN - May 2010 Applicants
Hi all!
I too am applying for the accelerated program in 2010 . Are there any others out there that won't be graduating with their BS/BA until May? I am at UCF right now and will graduate with my degree May 7, three days before start of the program!
The admissions counselor said this was fine, so long as I do graduate. Just makes me nervous cutting it so close.
I am also taking the GRE in December. For those of you who have taken it, do you think this is way too late?
Thanks!!

Re: UF Accelerated BSN - May 2010 Applicants
Hi future UF accelerators, I am in the program now. I have seen a million questions on here, and it reminds me of the year before I got in and the insane amount of time I was on here asking a million questions too. I will try to answer some, and check back from time to time. The Summer semester was, like they said it would be, pretty insane. I was breaking down toward the end of the semester, but had two weeks off and now the fall semester is proving to be much more chill. There were 50 students accepted... I think...maybe 55, 2 have dropped out. There are a bunch of students who just graduated from undergrad in May right before the Summer semester started. A lot of health science and public health majors. most everyone is from Florida, I really can't think of anyone who isn't a florida resident, but I am sure there are some. Most of us have no healthcare experience,so don't stress too much on that. There are a few people who work as clerks or PCAs but very few. I got in with an 1170 GRE, most people I have talked to who will speak of their score got around the same. I have heard of a few higher scores. But the truth is most people are lip locked about their scores, so it is really hard to tell what is average. let me know if you've got other questions, I would have loved to get inside the mind of someon in program when I was applying!!!

Re: UF Accelerated BSN - May 2010 Applicants
It's good to see others on here. I graduated from UF in May and am going to try and turn around and apply for May 2010, as well. My situation doesn't -quite- fit with the application criteria, so I need to talk to the admissions counselor next week and see if there's really any room whatsoever for exceptions (I will be taking two of the prereqs in the spring, just because of red tape nightmares that meant I couldn't take micro this fall. argh! ). If they won't budge, well, I may be trying for the class of 2011 if the boy and I stay in Gainesville another year. But I hope they will. I mean... I'm a UF alumna, still local, with a 3.3 undergrad GPA, 4.0 on my post-bacc work, between 1300-1400 on the GRE practice tests (I should really take it already)... it's going to be so frustrating if I have to wait another year because of one damned class.
So, we'll see.
I love this town, I love UF, and I'd love to hang another UF diploma on my wall. If I don't get in, well... I'd thought about Remington, starting in January, but in-state tuition is just too hard to resist. I'd likely wait until next summer and just keep taking classes... get Orgo, etc done for the CRNA program to come. | | No. 25 |

Re: UF Accelerated BSN - May 2010 Applicants
Update for any other UF 2010 applicants - I've talked to the admissions counselor and they are changing the program starting in 2010 (aka the next class up, those of us applying now). It will be a longer program, four full semesters, and will be starting in the fall so that the accelerated class will basically be paralleling the general program for the first two semesters. Same application, same deadline, etc.

Re: UF Accelerated BSN - May 2010 Applicants
What? Do tell more, I'm shocked here as I've been planning my life around this program for a while now. I couldn't find any mention of the changes on the UF nursing website. So does the program now start in fall of '10 and we would graduate Dec '11? That's a big change if you ask me. However, its probably good that they don't start with that intense summer semester anymore.

Re: UF Accelerated BSN - May 2010 Applicants
You might want to email and ask for more info. This is what I was told this morning, was told that the website is in the process of being changed, and this would take effect with the next class, starting in 2010. I know, I was super surprised as well. But it works out well for me, much better than a summer start.

Re: UF Accelerated BSN - May 2010 Applicants
To anyone in the program or applying: have you heard of anyone with under a cumulative 3.0 GPA getting in? I have a 2.9 cumulative, and maybe just over a 3.2 if you factor in the pre-reqs I've taken in my last 60 credits.
Just wondering if I should even bother taking the GRE, if I don't stand any change with my GPA.

Re: UF Accelerated BSN - May 2010 Applicants
About the program restructuring, I was really surprised- and bummed. I too have been planning my life around this program, and it definitely puts a wrinkle in my plans. I talked to someone yesterday, and it sounds as though there will be other changes (he hinted at the prerequisite requirements- but that's only a guess) that will likely be changing for future applicants, so I guess for 2011 applicants. I'm wondering if they are going to start requiring prereqs that are closer to the other programs in Florida.
I'm trying to look at it this way...It's a career, and in the end the fact that we'll finish five or so months later won't matter at all.
