I went to visit Gulf Coast College and learn more about their program. It is a private school so the tuition is very expensive. The person I spoke to was very nice, but I felt like he was trying to "sell" me something rather than help me make a decision.

Personally, I chose Erwin because of the low tuition and the people there are wonderful. Also, Erwin is part of the Hillsborough County school system so I will have days off when my kids are home from school. Makes things much easier. It does have a lottery system, but for the past few years everyone that passed the test was accepted into the program and most people get their first choice of class assigment.

Good luck in your search.

I am fourth quarter at GCC. My class of 24 is down to 16, we have endured teachers hired yesterday, "books" made on a copy machine, and zero teacher training. We paid 17 grand. Yet the school grows, despite draconian policies for staff and student. Welcome aboard, you will likely get through it, but it will be a bumpy ride. The fare is $20,000.

I too called them to find out info, and the girl on the phone was rude and told me nothing except how to get there for an interview with a counselor. I explained I needed to know cost first before I came down there and a little more info to see if it would fit my schedule..... She would not budge. Sounded fishy, so I never went. When they can not tell you the cost or other info, that means that it is outrageous! They want you in person so they can "sell" you. YOu will notice your community college wont do that!!!!

Run and don't look back. I went for information session on the LPN program. First the girl was dress in leggings and flip flops no teeth in the front. Seem like she really could be bothered the this session. Entrance test given as soon as you sit down. The admission assistant director dress with her chest exposed. The question the arouse amongst the 12 girls in this session is why is the tuition so HIGH $21,750.00 verses Erwin / Brewsters $ 3400 LPN tuition. Yes all three GCC, Erwin/Brewster have waiting list . GCC next day class in January 2010 night class March 2010. Why would anyone pay a 4 year tuition for a diploma program. Accrediation can be pulled at anytime. This session seemed like a SALES Pitch at a car dealership. There was only 15 students currently in class during our so called tour. I know we all won't to be in the field byt at what cost. Note back in 2006=07 GCC tuition was $10,000 now its $21,700 Erwin's tuition seem to remain the same or not as steep increase. It just appeared to be shady as the young lady spoke on the phone to a potential student as I waited`~ YOUR FINANCIAL AIDE fell through we need to reapply. Think about the pro and cons of any program INCLUDING this before you sign any promissory notes :ugh it was just a wild mess during this session
