Florida Roll Call ......

by RNPATL

Ok - who are you, what do you do, where abouts in Florida do you live (or if you are not in Floirda, what part of Florida do you want to move too), what is your clinical area, you status (CNA, LPN, RN, Student, Whatever) and anything else you might want to add.

Some of you already know me, I lived in Florida for a little over 20 years. An RN, I worked and lived in Sarasota. Went to nursing school at Manatee Community College and also University of South Florida at Sarasota. Great place .... love the beaches and the area is truly a wonderful place. I generally work surgical recovery and while in Florida, I worked in post open heart step down and also worked as a nurse manager.

I am a single dad raising three children (all are now teenagers - whew is this rough!). They are really great kids and I am a very luck father to have them.

Next ......

Hello RNPATL from the East Coast. I'm a resident of Boca Raton, live across the street from the beach, and am a Florida native. Unlike you, I'm ready for a move. I long for cooler temperatures, snow, colorful autumn leaves and rolling hills. Maybe even mountains. I'm single. My kids are grown and have moved out of state which is another reason why I feel the need to move.

I'm a second semester nursing student at the community college where I'll be starting my L&D rotation next month and work as a per diem patient care tech at a local hospital. The work is hard and worth much more than the $10/hr base pay I get paid but I've learned so much. So you are a recovery room nurse. Looks like a good specialty.

My name's Cassie, I'm a CNA at Florida Hospital - DeLand. I live in DeBary (central FL). I have been a CNA for a year, and I'm taking the pre-req's for the RN program at DBCC.

Thanks for the reply ... actually, I no longer live in Florida ..... I moved to North Carolina (in the mountains, by the way), for many of the same reasons you listed. The moderate climate and cooler temps are great.

Good luck in nursing school. What area do you plan of working in after you graduate?

Hi Cassie .... is Florida Hospital part of the Adventist Health System? If so, how do you like working for them?

Congratulations on your choice to go to nursing school. I started out the same way ... CNA first, then LPN and then RN and now finishing my undergraduate and graduate degree in nursing. One day I will be finished with school. :hatparty:

Yes, of course Patrick. We talked about Asheville and the NC area. I'm so torn. My kids are in Pittsburgh but I don't particularly like that area. The mountains of NC is where I have wanted to settle for a long time.

About specializing... I'm intrigued by OR or recovery. The money looks pretty decent. Because all I've experienced thus far is med/surg, it's too early for me to speculate with any kind of conviction. My instructor thinks I'll be good at critical care. I just don't know.

Good to hear from you.

Hi, I'm a third semester student in SE Florida attending an ADN program at the community college. Currently I'm waiting for my ATT to arrive so that I can challenge the LPN boards.

I also plan on moving out of Florida as soon as I finish school in May2005!:hatparty: All the cities here just run into each other making one big huge metropolitian area. I want to live in an area that has a MUCH smaller town feel. I also miss the snow and mountains. As beautiful as the beaches are here it just isn't worth the trade off. Once school is completed, me and my hubby are packing up and moving to northern Arizona. I can't wait!

Wow, this is turning out to be an interesting thread. Good luck with school and also with your move to AZ. I bet you will love it there!

Default From the UK
Hi I am Sue and a UK RN. I am heading for Vero Beach in Florida, and have a job lined up there...hoping to live in Sebastian area. I passed my NCLEX back in february and my papers were filed in June, however there is such a backlog with immigration that it could take another 12 months to get out there which is really depressing So we are planning to come over in October for a well earned vacation!!

I am currently a Nurse Manager of a Nursing Home here in the Uk and have been for almost 11 years and feel I need a new challenge...lol

Married with 2 young boys (8 & 2)

Let's see. I'm an LPN. I work in a home for the developmentally disabled and really do like it more than I thought I would. However, not enough "nursing stuff" going on, if you know what I mean. I am starting LPN-RN in August. I was also a CNA. I'm in Pensacola but hope to move to Bradenton after I finish school. I have already started checking into the U of SF in Sarasota for their RN-MSN degree program.

Love South Florida and can't wait to move there.

Someone was talking about small town feel? Move to the Panhandle. Bakoodles of little small towns this way.
