Miami-Dade has a CNA course that meets from I believe 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM once a week, either Thursday or Friday, (your choice) for 3 months. Cost is about $800.

Miami Lakes Tech has a PCT course. I believe Lindsey Hopkins has one as well.

Mcfatter and Sheridan have nursing assistant and Patient Care Tech courses. The courses are 5-7 months long. According to their current catalouge, Sheridan's Patient Care Tech course meets from 7:15 to 3:30 M-Th and there are online hours on Friday. I really wanted to enroll in that course myself because the curriculum sounds pretty thorough, but there is no way I could do that schedule. So I am currently looking at Mcfatter's nursing assistant course which is only four weeks long, meets 8-2 or 2:30 3 days a week, and has 2 days a week online. They list the price as being about $350 but I don't know if it costs more for books and whatever supplies. The problem is getting into those schools requires as much tests and documentation as it would take to get a security clearance to the White House. It's not like you can just sign up and start your CNA/PCT class tomorrow. But they are supposed to be very good schools.

If you can find a reason too, you can go private. Florida Career College is pretty good for a private school, but their PCT program does not include EkG (?). I thought EKG training was standard for a PCT course. I think Concorde has a PCT program. But these private schools are so expensive and here in South Florida there are so many more affordable options.

Last and least, there is Everest. They have a Patient Care Tech program. I have heard such frightening things about this school I would be afraid to invest my time and money there.

Has anyone heard of the Sunshine Training Center in North Miami Beach, or Allied Health Institute in Broward County?

I have heard of Allied, but I don't know much about it. I have decided to take the CNA test as a "challenger." In the state of Fl, you don't need any number of training hours to take the test, so I have been studying on my own and working with a nurse to prep me for the practical. If anyone has any advice for me, I would appreciate it. I take practice test after practice test on the written portion and seem to pass them all. It is the practicle that I am concerned about.
