Thank you everyone for the information. It is really helpful.
My hubby and I are coming in March, and I have set up a visit with a hospital in Brandon.
If anyone has any additional info, please pass it along : )
Lisa - May 6, '04 by MelisitaQuote from BarbPickI am from Long Island, NY, and I am very interested in Miami, and I would like to know more about it. I will be graduating in 3 years with my RN-BSN. How are the hospitals there? and the salaries? What is the lifestyle like for a young adult in Miami...I will be 23 when I graduate. What could you tell me about it, and any advice?? thanks so much!!!I was born in Miami, I live in Miami, I went to the U of Miami, I teach at Uof Miami I will end my days in Miami. I vacation elsewhere.
- May 15, '04 by KibbsRNstudentMy husband and I bought a piece of land IN a small own called North port. We will move there after I graduate as well. Or soon after. (1.5 yr) I would work for Sarasota Memorial. They have a website and the site has wages listed for all the possisitions(sp) an RNI is an ADN and RNII is a BA They are low paying compared to NH but my husband loves it there. Sarasota is only 20 minutes north and to a person from the city or even from FL where everything is a stones throw away that seems far but to us, who have laways lived in the sticks of NH that is a short walk. I love New England and my heart will always be here but I do look forward to the mild winters of FL.
- May 16, '04 by Blackcat99:chuckle Wow! What great posts! Very informative. I did read some great information about Gainesville. What is the traffic like in Gainesville? Crime rate?
How is the weather in Gainesville? Thanks. :hatparty: - May 19, '04 by sjoeSt Pete was WAY more appealing than Tampa (or any other FL town), at least to me and several of my friends when we have visited it. 5 of us are thinking of moving there.
Do a google search and learn a lot more. - Jun 23, '04 by KibbsRNstudentI hear that North Port FL is building a hospital soon. Cool! I have a piece of land in North Port taht we may build on in a few years.
- Jun 25, '04 by Lauren3249I have lived in Florida my whole life and have seen much of the state. I was born in Orlando and raised in the Kissimmee/Orlando area. First off, I must say that my opinion may be a little bias for the simple fact that I hate Florida and cannot stand the heat. I will be getting out of here as soon as possible and I will definitely never look back. If you are into blistering heat and heat stroke, old semi-senile people coming out the wahzoo, oh and tourist galore (think: jacked up prices on everything, horrible traffic, and people everywhere)... then this state is definitely for you.
I have been living in Tampa for the last year (Brandon area to be exact). If I was forced to choose between Tampa and Orlando, I would definitely say Orlando. If you're thinking Tampa because of the "beaches" I would say no. Any beach nearby would be the Gulf of Mexico. In my opinion, swimming in the Gulf of Mexico is the equivalent of taking a dip in a murky lukewarm bathtub. Yum. Clearwater Beach?? Yeah right.
At least with Orlando, you're only a 45 minute drive from the Atlantic. Much, much better.
Agh, I'm done putting down this beautiful state that I have been lucky enough to live in for the last 20 years.
Okay, it's 2:52am... I think I'm just a little tired. Maybe I can think more clearly tomorrow.
Oh, speaking of this beautiful "Sunshine State" ... this is a little song that we were forced to learn and sing in elementary school, I will never forget it... let's pass it down to further generations:
I wanna wake up in Florida where the orange blossoms grow
Where the sun comes peeking into where I'm sleeping
And the song birds say hello!
I love the fresh air and the sunshine
They are good for us, you know!
I want to make my home in Florida
Where the orange blossoms grow!
Goodnight All!
- Jun 25, '04 by KibbsRNstudentQuote from Lauren3249I agree with you about the heat. It is my husband who wants to move. I sweat in 60 degree weather. I love NH so much and never want to leave New England. But if I have to move then I have to. We love the beach in Sarasota called Siesta Key. It is a beautiful CLEAR water beach. The water was cool in January but it does get like bath water in the summer time. There are some beautiful areas in FL. but some are not so nice. I knwo I was a visitor(Many times) But don't be too hard on it. Even in NH and CT (where I grew up) there are some areas that are not so nice. every place has them. MY husband loves the heat too. He really should have married a girl like him becasue I will die in the heat there but I guess I could saty indoors all the time. lol. anyway. ttyl.In my opinion, swimming in the Gulf of Mexico is the equivalent of taking a dip in a murky lukewarm bathtub. Yum. Clearwater Beach?? Yeah right.
Goodnight All!

I couldn't agree with you more!! The day I left Florida 5 years ago was a very happy day
I lived in Miami for 30 years (originally from Long Island, NY).The heat, traffic, people, heat, traffic, tourists, and the HEAT were horrible!!!!! You could cry just going out to get the mail in the summertime!
I've been all over the state and there's nowhere I'd live in that god forsaken place. - Jul 13, '04 by lisa-888Quote from BarbPickHi - I am thinking of travel nursing (1st time) and starting in Miami (from Vancouver, Canada) I have heard many many things about it there - from being way too scary (guns, gangs etc) to being a cool place (nice beaches, restaurants, beaches etc.) Can you recommend some good hospitals to work in and or safe sections to live in etc. I really want to see things if I'm traveling this far (enjoy sight seeing, beaches culture etc) any info would be appreciated!I was born in Miami, I live in Miami, I went to the U of Miami, I teach at Uof Miami I will end my days in Miami.
