Hello Molly,

Referring back to the poster that stated that the hospital will terminate new grads to make room for a experience nurse, I have a few questions about that and hopefully you could be so kind to answer them.

First, I was wondering if the hospital does this on a common base. Does the hospital have a reputation on terminating their new grads.

Second, is this based on the new Ormand beach location or the Palm coast location?

Hi jnmoore02,

Thanks for your interest in Florida Hospital and your great question. This is the first time that I’ve heard of anyone interpreting a termination this way. I know that GNs must pass several classroom exams as a routine part of the GN programs, and if they do not pass, they will not be able to proceed with the program. But, Florida Hospital does not terminate new grads to make room for experienced nurses. We welcome nurses of all skill levels on our floors. There are specific positions designated on units for both graduate nurses and experienced nurses so that we can balance everyone’s skill level and give growth opportunities to all nurses.

I am only familiar with the new grad programs for the 7 Florida Hospital locations in Orlando. FH Ormond Beach and FH Flagler are sister hospitals under the Adventist Health System umbrealla and they make their own hiring decisions. Hope this helps!

Hello Molly:
I am a recent graduate nurse and I'm interested in the GN program at FH, many of my classmates got hired by FH Alt, I did not know that the jobs were not posted and they went directly to HR to apply so I came late and the positions were filled up. I have been looking for another jobs but I really would like to work for FH, and I'm interested in pediatrics, but I'm willing to take a med-surg position if peds is not available for nurses with AS degree. I heard that another GN program is to start again in Feb. 2010, is that true? If so, when is the time to apply? Do I have to apply online or do I have to go to HR? Please guide me, I'm willing to wait a couple of months if I've the chance to apply for FH but I do not want to waste my time waiting for a position that won't be available.

Potosina,

Congratulations on your recent graduation from nursing school! My advice would be to try to visit the www.linktoyourfuture.com website daily and check the “Search Jobs” link. It will take you directly to our FH Careers website. The units open up GN positions on an as-needed basis and you will be able to apply online. You are eligible to apply for all positions with an AS degree, including Peds or Med/Surg.

The website says that positions will open up in February, July, and October and should be posted in December or early January. Keep in mind they are opened on an as-needed basis by each unit, so make sure to try to check the website frequently.

The program at LSCC is good. The only thing that I wish was different was more clinical hours, but from what I have been told its that way at all the schools.
