Re: Anyone attending Galen school of nursing, St petersburg/Tampa????
I just graduated from the LPN program on May 2nd and YES it is very very expensive but it gives you a very good base especially if you are planning on going on to get your RN. I do have to say that their interaction with the students is VERY POOR to say the least which is why only a handfull of the graduating class are returning for their RN. Having to pay almost 25 grand for RN school is tough to swallow, knowing that they are still not accredited is another issue but couple that with dealing with extremely DISRESPECTFUL administrative staff and it is just not worth it.
The new RN class that started in mid May was full but by the time they actually started classes only half of us showed up and after a week a few more dropped out and opted to go to a dfferent school. The majority of the graduating class are actually enrolled at SPC for the Fall transition program and the remainder are going to enroll for the Spring program at SPC.
You learn quickly at Galen to keep your mouth zipped and not say anything to administration eventhough they are completely wrong in regards to any situaion because they will make the rest of your stay there a living hell.
I still have lots of friend there that have not yet graduated and they say it is getting worse each day and they can't wait to graduate and NEVER return back to Galen. This is a shame as Galen has a very good program but I think they forgot that for the school to continue to flourish they need students to attend and referals go a long way.
To make matters worse we walked down the graduation line without our diplomas because they claimed the company mailed out the wrong ones. We were promised that we would receive our diplomas within two weeks but guess what? to date we DO NOT have our diplomas and as of this week they don't know when we will get them.
I took my NCLEX PN boards yesterday and found out today that I PASSED!!!!
GOOD LUCK TO ALL

I have to agree with you on that, i used to go to Galen and was not treated very nicely, i hear good things about their program, it is hard and all, but they treat their students like a bunch of kids in bootcamp, once you pay that tuition you get no more respect, some teachers curve grades, and it makes you wonder, do they lower the grades of others? I have had a view times that the scantron made a serious mistake in grades and so did others, i did not compalin about a cursing untill i found out that not every students grade got curved, i have heard some people are sueing the school for various reasons. I think a school should be strict on its rules but at the same time respect its students, we paid 14 grand, we are the customers.
Did you make it trough the program in 1 time? and what was your grade point avarage? How many people did you start out with and how many did graduate?

Congrats
I graduated from keiser last year and every Galen student I met was very nice and very competent in clinicals. Unfortunately this is not the same case with other local schools. Their education seems to be top notch from what I have seen.

Very true is all I can say..I am still in the lpn program and made the mistake of inquiring about how my grade on a test went from an A to a low C when we actually graded them in class and I had an A. The answer I was given was that the instructor accidentally put RN questions on the test, and later had to throw them out, giving some students points for those questions when they got them wrong, and for the students that got them right, they lost those points, thereby lowering their grade.
Shortly after that I had to go into the office for a badge and was called a "trouble maker" by another staff member..all because I inquired about something? There have been a few more "incidents" with staff and lack of respect issues since then, making my life there very difficult. . Without going into more detail, all I can say is I cannot wait until I graduate, I had planned on going through the RN there, but no way will I go now...I'll be heading over to SPC for the RN. I cannot wait to get away from Galen, and am very sorry I chose to attend a school that has no respect for their students, not to mention some (not all, but some) very vengeful staff members. The best advice to those going there, is like what was already said; keep your mouth zipped, and do the best you can to get through it all. I am sorry this all seems a negative post, but this is how I truly feel. | | No. 28 |

Re: Confused about Galen
I am so confused and need advice. Just got admission to Galen and at first, I was so excited, but after thinking over it a couple of times, I wonder......is becoming an LPN really worth $15,000.....and if I do end up following up to become an RN..........I would be in debt $35,000 approximately(and it's not even a University degree!). I've read so much from u guys that have gone there, scared that if I plan to get my BSN, my credits won't transfer, attitude of the lecturers etc. Most of all, if I end up not going and change my mind, would they still accept me?
On the other hand, I don't have all my pre-reqs and I really want to get something done this year. What should I do?
P.S. I also have a flair for Information Technology and thinking of doing one of the short 3 month courses and hopefully get a job that will pay upward of $50,0000...........clueless on what to do and don't want to do something that I'll regret later! Pls advise | | No. 29 |

Re: Anyone attending Galen school of nursing, St petersburg/Tampa????
There is a big difference between IT and nursing. You must love to work directly with people to be a good nurse. There are a lot of nurses out there that just want a job. If that's your goal then go into IT.
