Re: Accelerated OR Generic BSN AT UNIV. MIAMI OR FLORIDA ATLANTIC 2010
FAU and UM state the same requirements on their website. Now here's the deal. Excellent science grades for both. FAU looks only at GPA (too many applicants). Lemme tell you that the ABSN list averaged about 800 when I applied. It is true they only accept the top 30/40. Waiting list is long, and because it is a public university, it pretty much narrows it down to people close to a 4.0, and then those that "know" someone at the school. I have heard through the grapevine, that FAU is extremely political. I know a few awesome students who were accepted there (honors level) as well as a few that had some connections. I'm sure there are many programs out there that are similar.
I think UM takes into consideration everything that you've done. Plus, your letter of recommendation. The fact that UM is private, they may accept more students with the anticipation of enrolling less and losing applicants to public universities , therefore it won't hurt to apply if you are unsure, this may be to your advantage. The questions are: Do you meet the requirements? Do you ace your sciences? Do you have a good recommendation letter from one of your science prereq professors? Do you have a good academic history, and work history (second degree students)? And, do you plan to apply early (earlier the better)? If you say yes to all of these, then you should be good to go, won't hurt to try
