SN Question to Ohio Flight Nurses

  1. This open question is aimed at Ohio based flight programs.
My daughter is working on her RN at Ohio University, and is becoming a real trauma junkie (like her dad :chuckle )
Her question, is there any programs that could offer her a ride along, or something like that to help her learn what flight nursing is like, and see if this is something she would like?
Thanks in advance for any pointers. Mike

(Disclaimer: I'm not a flight nurse, but work for a hospital who's got a flight program.)

Not sure about ride alongs. Usually those choppers are too small for extra folks. She could always call a hospital that has a flight program and see if she can't take a tour and/or talk to some of their flight nurses.

    MCmike55,
Have her contact the local flight programs and ask for the program director or the chief flight nurse. Tell them what she is looking for. I am based out of Chicago and all the programs here give ride alongs to nurses or fire/ems folks. We encourage ride alongs to expose more people to our field (it also helps with the PR aspect). Our ride alongs spend the entire shift with us and go through a basic orientation to safety and then follow us wherever we go. hope this helps

ganik and amyliz. Thanks for the info. I'll pass it along to my daughter. I'm sure that will help. I still kinda hope to hear from Medflight Columbus or Cleveland Metro folks.
    Thanks again!!!

Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland has a program in which they are offering a Masters degree with a specialty in flight nursing - and they allow people who are considering the program to ride along with Metro LifeFlight. Check out fpb.cwru.edu for more info.
