Flight Nurse Book Called Trauma Junkie

Hey all,

I'm currently reading Trauma Junkie: Memoirs of an Emergency Flight Nurse by Janice Hudson. I'm loving it right now. I wanted to throw it out here as an option for learning more information about flight nursing or at least for providing some entertaining reading if anybody wanted to check it out.

If you've read it, what did you think of it?

OMG!!! This is so weird. I JUST finished reading the book, open allnurses.com then I found this thread. The book is awesome. Love it so much.

There is a second ed. with update? Man I got to find that book ASAP!!!

Specializes in Critical Care, Emergency Medicine, Flight.

im kinda upset i couldnt get the update as an electronic copy for my ipad :(

I'm glad you folks enjoyed it. I just couldn't get in to it. Something about the narrative style made me feel so distanced from the stories. I felt super conscious the whole time that I was hearing someone's story, rather than being able to fall in to it and forget I was reading.

Specializes in Cardiac &Medical ICU, Emergency Medicine.

Such a great book. Gave it to some other flight nurses and even though they've been flying for a few years now, they loved the book too

I enjoyed the book. Very engrossing. I think I read it in a couple of days.

I am a trauma junkie..its the endorphine kick or high you get when a serious case comes through the door. And you know you can deal with it..I love it!

I really enjoyed the book when I read it a couple of years ago. It was a factor on why I went through EMT training, it made me realize that I loved emergency medicine.

I just finished to book also. Wow what a story. I love the fact that she rides horses too. I have recommended this book to all of my medical and veterinary minded friends.

Excellent book, I've read it twice (both editions). Can't say enough about it!

I know this is an old thread. Is there a difference in the first and second edition? If I just finished the second would it be worth reading the first now?

Thanks
