Where to start for a newly licensed nurse

Nurses New Nurse

Hello All,

I am a newly registered nurse and I am having trouble finding a job. Most openings that I have looked at require some sort of experience. I am frustrated because I do not have any experience and therefore it has been more difficult to find a job. I was wondering where many of you started off as a new registered nurse? Any advice or tips are also welcomed.

Where are you located? Apply to all new grad positions and even positions that say experience preferred. Try to volunteer. Where are you looking? Don't just look at hospitals. Try clinics and doctors offices. Also, make sure your resume and cover letter are as perfect as it can be.

Finding a new grad job is hard. Trust me, I know. It took me 11 months to get a job.

I am located in Wisconsin. Currently I'm looking at hospitals and long term care facilities. I'm really opened to anything, as long as I gain experience. However, I just feel discouraged when I see positions that are available but require some sort of experience.

Thanks for your advice though. I will definitely work on my resume and volunteer, if necessary. I'm up for anything as long as I can get my foot in the door.

You could try rural areas.. I hear they are more open to new grads. I'm also a newly licensed nurse with the same problem. I feel like I have a better chance winning the lottery than being chosen over a nurse with actual experience. My strategy is looking up the name and contact info on nursing managers of specific units I want to work on and sending them an email with my resume and cover letter. There's nothing to lose with that.

Great idea! I will have to try that!
