When to start applying

Hello,

I just was looking for a bit of advice. I will graduate in November, 2009 and am wondering when I should start applying for jobs. Should I start 2 months before graduation? Another question for you, how soon can you take the NCLEX after graduation? I am a single mom who has been paying rent through scholarships and student loans and really need a job as soon as possible and I am beginning to stress over how I will pay rent in January.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me.

I agree. Start applying now. I applied/interviewed/received a job offer in January '09 for my Sept '09 job.

As for the NCLEX, I graduated in mid-May and the earliest we could begin to schedule our exams (after we received our ATT or "authorization to test") was the 3rd week in May. Make sure you submit your paperwork early and hopefully your school is prompt with their paperwork.

Good luck!!

Definitely apply for jobs now. In my area, hospitals started interviewing the December 09 grads in July.

Can I ask how you stated on your resume that you would be graduating later. Did you put anything about licensing? Or just leave it as expected graduation date? Or maybe mention it in cover letter?

I never put licensing on my resume...

Also, when you put your degree, put

xxx School of Nursing, BSN/ASN anticipated: November 2009, Current GPA: x.xx

I would definitely start applying now. I graduate in December and have already applied for 4 jobs. Those GN internships fill up fast, might as well be one of the first to apply.

Good luck!
