I have personally found study groups to be absolutely useless. I think I read somewhere that the best study group is small and comprised of people who are on par with you intellectually.

You've gotta approach learning the material much like a type 2 diabetic approaches a box of Krispy Kreme donuts...with a massive craving for it. Most of the people who have wanted me in their study groups just want to anticipate what questions are going to be on the test. They are less interested in really understanding the material and more interested in getting by with as little real knowledge as possible.

I made primarily A's (one B) and passed NCLEX the first time without being involved in a study group. I definately study better alone. Group learning is not for everyone. Go with what works for you.

It is all depend on the group. I had to sifted out some folks this semester from my group because they were like parasites. I prefer smaller study group with no more than 3. I usually like to study on my own for several hours prior to going to the group, I would read the book, listen to the lecture, rewrite my notes and study using index cards. I use to study group to compare notes and assist other hard work folk who are serious about learning and who can also help me.

I agree -- groups did not work for me - I did much better on my own once I figured out what worked for me.
