Wow, thanks so much for sharing that great info!! I have just passed my boards and I'm so excited! I have heard so many horror stories of how experienced nurses 'eat their young'. It's nice to know there are encouraging ones as well! God bless, and thanks again!

another THANK YOU to those who have posted such great advice, tips & experiences. im a new RN... graduated in june, passed boards in august & am accepting a job offer @ a SNF tomorrow.

...i know im going to be overwhelmed with the ratio... but i guess ill be overwhelmed no matter what, right?

im shocked reading this to see how many students received such little clinical experience in school... i didnt realize how good mine was... for example, i had a 150 hr preceptorship on tele (ICU/IMC) before graduation & i had wonderful preceptors. they didnt hover over me constantly, but they built my confidence & were always available for help or to answer questions. i worked my way up to 6-8 patients before my 150 hrs were up, doing all nursing care & charting on my own unless i needed guidance. not bragging, just bummed to see that so many students are missing out on the positive experience that i had.

...ill get back to you all when i have some 1st year of nursing advice to give

(sorry i got a little out of control with the smilies haha)
