Is there a light at the end of the tunnel

I am one month into my internship in the ED and It has been ok up till now. We are not paired up with one preceptor there are several ineterns with one preceptor. I don't feel that we are able to get enough guidance. It takes several attemts to get a question answered. We spend alot of time asking each other for help....not that its a bad thing but. It sure feels like the blind leading the blind. It seems that I had this image built up in my head of what it would be like after finishing school. I really feel like I don't know anything and will never get the hang of all of this. Is this a normal feeling ....or have I made a big mistake??

Boy can I relate! Please don't give up. I have done a lot of jobs, am usually a very quick study and adapt to new environments easily. I graduated from nursing school 2 years ago and barely made it through my first year. Now I am 40 yrs old and happy -- tired but happy. The first year was so ugly, stressful, sad, frustrating I thought I could never do it. Now I can't imagine NOT doing it. Stand up for yourself, ask questions, read and learn everything you can and try to find a positive, smart, experienced nurse who will take you under his/her wing for guidance and as a resource. I floated for several months to the ICU and now, in the ER, when I need help I know several people I can always call for answers.

I am kind of fried today and need to sign off to enjoy my day's plans. Please keep my email addy and feel free to send a note if you would like. I know it is so hard as a new nurse. I justed started on a med surg floor. My schedule sucks, I have 4 different preceptors. The first day was just shadowing. Not shown much of anything. Really bored. The nurse was also a charge nurse and did alot of work that would never apply to me. The orientation on the floor was terrrible never introduced to any of the nurses. Had to introduce myself. Had to find where everything is located on the floor. Oh well maybe next week will be better

..been in the ER for 5 days and absolutely hate it. I always tot it was my dream job but im afraid to tell people i dont like it cos ive not even been there for a month ( i tot it was my dream job)..Now i wish i had gone to a tele floor.......
