What is the most horrible thing a nursing instructor has said to you as a student???

Here's some of mine...

"After reading your care plans I was wondering if someone had beaten you all with a STUPID stick"

Suck it up and put your "big girl panties" on!!

""From the looks of your exam scores I see that the nursing profession might be in danger!!"

I had one instructor tell me to "re-think my career choice." And another one basically tell me "I wasn't SMART enough to be a nurse." Well, I showed them. I went on to get my LVN, and just recently graduated from my Transition program to get my RN. I'm glad I didn't listen to either one of them. I know they are still teaching and still being their rotten selves.

During my last semester at school, my clincal instructor said this to me, "If I was sick in the hospital, I would not want you as my nurse or you taking care of me!" After she said that, I thought I failed and I was not coming back..And I replied back, "Is this the failure?" But she said no it is is not..But those words stuck in me thou..I did graduate in May thou of this year...She was not hard on me after I told her that she was singling me out and so fourth. But yea, it was an experience thou..

I was hospitalized with pneumonia last year - my 2nd semester of nursing. I had missed TWO clinical days and my professor came to me and said "you might want to think about dropping out this semester and coming back into the night program in the fall". All for 2 clinical days. Now here's a classmate who missed 7 (SEVEN!!!) clinical days that semester, at least that many the semester after that and about half the clinical days this past semester and they didn't say a thing to her and they graduated her. She was the ONE failure on the NCLEX our school has had so far.

"Why did you coose not to keep our agreement? That's just not good enough"

It was on my final clinic after 3 years at the school.

The agreement was that no matter what I should always consulte with my nurse-instrctor.

She never asked why I didn't hold the agreement.

So why I didn't hold the agreement?

Because the patient got very ill and I called the doctor before I told her.

Didn't even want to hear my side of the story first, it wasn't after 15 minutes of yelling I got the chance to explain my self. But then she continued yelling at me. She never admitted she was wrong.

Others, including the doc, have complimented me for showing responcibility and initiative.

But we pretty much hated each other and even more after that. Everything I did was wrong.

I filed several complaints over similar situations, but got these "sit down and talk about it in a nice manner" answers from the school counsiler.

:banghead:

I thought about complaining to the head of the school for the lack of support. But didn't expect to get much support from them either. It was the worst period of my time as a student.

It was the only time I thougt about quitting, and I truely love nursning.

Just a little back ground first. We had a instructor who was famous for her tests that after every one took them we were like "Where did those questions come from?". Our instructors taught certain lessons and wrote their own tests for the lesson they tought and her lecture and tests were never the same. After a particularly tricky gastro test she came in the room and asked "Did every one leave their brains at home today?" seems only 4 out of 30 of us had passed and those 4 were all grades in the 80's. 79 and below was failing in out pn course. Then she went on to say "If I am ever in the hospital and any of you walk in my room I will ask for a better nurse." The class just came back with "Well you taught that lecture so what kind of teacher does that make you?"

Well, it's time to admit it...I'm one of those students who will argue a test question. I don't do it for each test, nor do I mention it infront of any students. I make sure all of my ducks are in a row and the evidence is laid out. I don't feel like I should just "take what I gave you". If you don't want to give me the points, whatever, but I need to know why I'm seeing the answer I gave, and not the one you gave. That said...I argued 2 questions in Pharm, with the teacher saying to me "no credit will be given". End of email. But that teacher actually looked into my response for "why is it this answer" and would ask other faculty. I received an email for both questions I argued telling me I would get credit and so did everyone else.

Then comes fundamentals lecture. I was spot on with my answer, she acknowledged it and said "I will look into it for next semester". Gee, thanks. You tell me I'm right but that you are too (fill-in-the-blank) to give me credit for a CORRECT answer. And you'll make sure not to put it on any more tests. OooooooohKay.

Now I know...one question...whoop-de-doo. But it came down to me only being able to miss 7 questions on the final to keep my A. I did it! But, whooo, missed 7! I would have been furious if I had missed 8!

I am left handed. I proceeded to do a Trach skill on the other side of the bed because it was more comfortable position for me the clinical instructor told me I failed the skill and learn how to use it on the "right" side.

I was in skills lab taking a skills test and needed to get my latex free gloves from my bag (I have a latex allergy) I was going to tell my instructor what I was doing instead of just walking out....her response...."Do you know you ask too many questions?" My response "I am not asking you I am telling you"...she then informed me I could not be a nurse with a latex allergy as everything in the room was latex...i politely informed her I was not touching everything in the room and that that was why they made things latex free. I never had any problem with her again the rest of the semester....I almost walked out that day but I didn't. And from that day on....I made sure I asked lots and lots of questions :roll She always answered everyone of them with a smile.

I had an instructor who, during clinical, called me a liar and a cheat because she didn't recognise my handwriting on my care plans. It WAS my work( written at three AM while I was on break at my night-job at a LTC), but she did this in front of my classmates, pt's, pt families, and the nurses on the floor of that clinical rotation. She was also quite loud while doing so.

Same instructor actually lifted a classmate of mine off the floor by her neck for walking across the hall to dispose of sheets when the laundry hamper was moved by a floor nurse on that rotation. She called this student a "stupid idiot" too, and was overheard by all on the floor.

We both got revenge tho, as we're both DAMN GOOD nurses today, and that instructor can eat her heart out!

are you all ready for this one--it is offensive on so many levels, i feel the need to apologize in advance for her...

when i was in my first nursing clinical ever (nur101, ADN pgm) i had to take vitals on my bedridden COPD pt. well he was full of feces, so of course i began to gather the neccessary supplies to change him. i was met at his door by my instructor who demanded to know WHAT i was doing. Duhhh??!! i stated that i had to change him, whereupon she angrily stated, "you have a CNA mentality, you know that????" WHAAAAATTTT??!! what is a CNA mentality?? well, i stood my ground and told her in my most polite but firm tone that there was no way i was leaving him in that mess, no matter what my next agenda was to be (she expected me to be at the crowded station, digging through the chart for info, (i hated that part)!!!!! she just glared at me and walked away, i did my duty and still had all the neccessary info from his chart by the time it was needed. BTW, i was a CNA since 1996, and it was a very rewarding job that gave me the gumption needed for my new career as an RN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
