SHIFT DIFFERENTIAL????

Hi! I just finally landed a job and i was quoted a certain amount at my interview but then I get there and they change it saying that its $3 less that it will only be what they quoted with shift differential. Ok so heres what I dont get im training on days but my shift will be 3-11, so doesnt shift diff just apply to working hours after 6PM anyways????? Thats where Im confused, so why dont they just tell me that I'm getting paid what I was told in the first place???

I wouldn't be too happy to learn that either but if it is a good job and the market is tight for new grads in your area you might just want to just go with the flow.

Shift differentials and the time it begins are most likely unique to each company. In the hospital our evening starts at 3pm. And discrepancies do happen, poor communication IMHO, get it in writing so there can't be any further disputes! Congrats and good luck in your new job!

At my job shift diff starts at 7pm. It sucks that they did not give you an accurate quote.

one of the hospitals in my area start shift dif at 11p to save costs. That may be the case here, but I would check into it, just to be sure

Be happy you have a job..there's alot of people that don't...But regardless of that I'd be asking why you're wage is not what they told you before...Sounds like someone might have relayed the wrong information to you..sorry to hear i wouldn't be too happy about it either..best of luck tho!

I agree with above posters. A couple of bucks shouldn't sway your decision. It's not like employers are lining up to hire us.

Thanks for the comments! Believe me I know how hard it is for a new grad to get a job, i searched for about 6 months with 2 almosts and then they backed out last min not wanting to train a new grad. FInally I got a place after a long road of searching and going crazy, so I DEF took the job. Im on orientation on days now but will be doin 3-11 and they told me shift starts at 3PM.

The hospital I work at has an evening shift diff that starts at 3pm and a night shift diff that starts at 11 pm. There is also an added weekend diff. As someone above said, every facility is different.
