SHARP New Grad RN 2017

Nurses New Nurse

Published

Hi everyone,

I noticed that there wasn't any threads about the New Grad RN 2017 program at Sharp in San Diego. It would be great to see where everyone is in the application process and to see if anyone has been called for an interview yet?

Currently, my status is "Under Consideration- Updated: October 17, 2016". Did anyone hear back for an interview yet? What units/locations did everyone apply to?

I applied to the NICU at Mary Birch and the SICU at Grossmont.

Good luck everyone!

Hi Doglover444,

Thanks for starting this post! I applied to Adult Med/Surg Memorial and NICU Mary Birch. My status is the same as you and it still says under consideration (last viewed: October 18, 2016). I hope we hear something soon! Good Luck and please keep me posted! =)

I applied for ER at Memorial and Grossmont. Just curious, what schools are you guys coming from? I'm from Azusa Pacific, but LA campus actually. Kind of curious as to how they sort out which new grads "stand out" given that we don't have experience and we're probably relatively similar in qualifications.

Meechfmx3,

I went to the info session and they said to make sure to follow instructions and have your clinical hours listed on your resume. Also, they said to read the qualifications very carefully- for example, ER jobs require you to have acute care hospital experience (working as a tech or CNA)- thus, your experiences in that aspect will make you stand out... I am assuming. Many of the specialties like ICU require an ICU preceptorship/externship so they are probably looking for people who specifically have experience in the ICU setting.

I graduated with a BSN from a school in San Diego.

Mine says the same. Updated oct. 18, 2016 and still under consideration. Graduated with a BSN and I work for sharp as a CNA.

bellarn1, if you're already in the Sharp system, you're probably set! Or is it that competitive that you have to already have an in somehow? What unit do you work in?

doglover444, Oh, didn't realize they had info sessions. Might be a longshot for me since I don't have that experience and I'm not really from the area/have any ties to the hospital, but we'll see. Fingers crossed

I applied for SICU/MICU and PCU/med/surg/tele. Just out of curiosity, do you all have your license and ACLS/PALS already? I am an out of state applicant with a BSN (when I graduate in December) and here they like to hire before we even graduate. But from what I've seen that may not be the standard in CA. Mine says "Under Consideration" updated Oct. 18 by the way.

Just to clarify, I applied at Memorial so my start dates wouldn't be until March, with the license required by February. I'm pretty confident I will have my license by then, but I'm getting the feeling that not having it now may disqualify me. I meet all the other qualifications (doing my preceptorship in the ICU, and have acute care experience as CNA including in ICU/ED) as well as a bunch of additional leadership/research experience that I'm hoping will help me. I'm hoping some locals who are more familiar with the hiring process in CA can give me some insight.

Montanamover,

At the info session, people who graduate in December were there and the recruiter said to wait until the next round to apply (I think she said in January) if you graduate in December. But you never know- you seem every qualified! :) It really is just how lucky you are and how much the HR person and the manager likes your resume!

Good luck!

Thank you so much, Doglover444! The tricky part is it was strongly implied by the manager in the ICU where I'm precepting that I would have a position available there, with a substantial signing bonus. But my fiancé is in San Diego and can't move for another year. So I need to let them know soon if I'm staying or going. Do you remember when the start dates are for the January applicants?

So glad to see this. I applied 10/11 and my application status is still "under consideration" updated 10/18 (which appears to be the last time any of us has had an update). I applied for grossmont PCU/tele and memorial adult health. Im from the Boston area so it's definitely a long shot for me but hoping to hear something either way soon!!

Goodluck to you all :)
