I live in north central IL and the area seems to pay new grad rns anywhere from 19 to 22 per hour base pay and then most of the hospitals pay 3 dollar shift diff for midnights. Its not bad for the area since the cost of living is lower then Chicago.

At the LA hospital that I am starting at soon we make $29.50 for days with weekend/night differential and a raise a few months in

Depends on LOCATION then it depends on what SPECIALITY your getting into...I know ICU's & ER's will give you an added $2-4 once your off orientation...then add more $$ on if you get more certifications. Plus shift diffs. It all depends but I think it ranges from $19-30 AND if you work in a dr.s office or hospital

I agree almostnurse1983....it greatly depends on where you live & what speciality you are going for.

In Vegas at the hospital I want to work at:

    $28 base
    $2 more nights
    $2 more weekends

New grad with all benefits. Not too shabby. An apt is about 900.

in 2002 in Washington state, my new grad pay was as a per-diem nurse on a med/surg ortho floor - rate $27/hr.

hm, and no state income tax, that's pretty darn good. It just so happens the little rain we get in philly is just too much for me. When i feel like dealing with hard core rain, WA is the first on my list.

In Concord, CA the starting pay for a new grad at the hospital here is $43 something per hour. And the hospital in Walnut Creek is $42 something. The hospital in Fremont, CA starts their new grads at $44 something per hour. These places are about 30-40 minutes away from Oakland and San Francisco.

It's kind of scary to see how much inexperienced nurses are making around here. I mean a friend of mine has only been a nurse for 1 year and a half and she makes $50/hr and she gets $10 more working nights.
