Participation Compensation

  1. As a new nurse within your first year of licensure ... if you were to participate in an online survey (max 15 minutes of your time) asking you to provide feedback regarding nursing career satisfaction and your future intentions for staying or leaving the profession (no open ended responses required) .... what would you suggest as appropriate compensation for your participation?

Thanks in advance for helping me to brainstorm! Your perspective as a new nurse is important to me.

I don't think you need to offer compensation per participant - but if you do a $5 Starbucks card seems sufficient. I did a drawing (all participants got an entry) for a $100 Target card and had potential subjects lining up. (Learned that from a vendor at an exhibit hall- he saw his potential leads quintuple once he changed his offer from a generic MasterCard to the coveted Target gift card.)

Thanks for the suggestions and support meanmaryjean! With my potential sample size and being a poor doctoral student I honestly do not know how I could go about compensating each individually and was considering a drawing. I wanted to find out what appeals to new nurses ... it's been over 10 years for me and there are also generational differences to consider too. I hope a few more participants chime in as to what they like as well.

Anyone have any suggestions for popular compensation ideas in addition to either a Target or Starbucks gift card?

Thanks again meanmaryjean; I greatly appreciate the support.

I've never been compensated for filling out surveys before. Usually they come through my professional email from the BON asking if you'd like to participate. I always do if they're not longer than 15 minutes.

Thanks for the reply! If you were to be offered compensation, what would you be the most interested in receiving?

I really like the gift card idea. Maybe the recipient could win the gift card of their choice and choose between something like: Starbucks, Target, Sephora, Amazon, and Meijer. Personally, I'd like an Amazon gift card, it's where I do the majority of my shopping (I'm on the older end of the millennials for an age reference).
