Parkland Critical Care Nurse Residency Sept 2012

Nurses New Nurse

Published

Hi all,

I'm somewhat new to this forum. I applied to Parkland's MICU and SICU residency. I've already received the email saying my apps were forwarded to the hiring manager. I'm looking for any info on what the hiring process is like, far as, how long after receiving the email did you get an interview and also any info on how the residency works. My dream is either to get into the ED or one of the critical care areas. I know this would be a great opportunity to be employed at a Level I trauma center. Any advice, tips, connections and info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember them saying there were 25 ER spots, that's not counting the other critical care areas. So, yea it will be a HUGE group of us.

I have no idea how many ER spots there were, but there should be 13 SICU. 25! Thats a pretty big group!

The recruiter said it was 28 ER spots

Wow lots and lots of people! Business casual right? Have you guys bought any scrubs yet? I kind of want to get some more feminine style scrubs than I had in nursing school. Any type of scrub would be better the big orange box shaped scrubs we had to wear lol!

Yeah Monday is business casual but not sure of the rest of the week.

Wow, 28! That's incredible. I really like that because I won't feel so lost by myself, lol. Hopingicu, I already got my scrubs. I only got 3 sets for now, and when I need more I will buy more. My favorite style is Greys Anatomy. The fabric is super soft, and very flattering. As for other things, I bought me really comfy sneakers, have my Littmann steth. from school, mini light, trauma shears, notebook to take notes, my recorder from school (for lengthy lectures, lol), mini notebook that fits in pocket, mini calculator (not sure if we can use our phone calculator). Oh, and not to mention my sense of humor... Can't think of anything else. What else can u think of that I'm missing?? :)

Ha ha ha sounds like you are all ready newdaisyRN :D

Yeah I got 3 sets of scrubs, my new Littmann (grad gift) whic I can't wait to use, an a notebook for notes, got some trauma shears from a flight nurse promoting their company and pretty much everything else I have from school. Monday is almost here and I'm super excited that we all will be starting our careers in our dream jobs ????

Yes I am super excited!!! I still need to go shop for my scrubs :) think I will go do that today!

Grey's Anatomy and I think they're called Wink scrubs are really nice scrubs. I was told that there's a Scrub's and Beyond near Parkland that offers discounts so I may go by there to get more scrubs

That's great to hear Babigrl, when I got my scrubs 2 weeks ago, I felt that much closer to being a Parkland nurse. I have got to say I love that we can choose between royal blue on royal blue or royal blue top on black pants. I got all 3 sets blue on black. What kind of Littmann did you get? I will still be using my lightweight Littmann. My trauma shears recently came in the mail, and my first thought is how in the world will that fit in my pocket???? I think my shears a tad too big. I think I got the 7 in. I may have to carry a fanny pack around will all my little gadgets, lol. btw, I am totally kidding about the fanny pack.

Fanny pack lol. I needed that laugh this morning. I actually got the master cardiology black edition. During clinicals a nurse let me use hers and I was surprised by how good it works. I only got one set of the royal blue/black. It's starting to feel surreal after Monday we'll be able to officially sign as an RN. I think I won be able to sleep come Sunday night. But everyone that I tell I'm starting my career at Parkland in the ED tells that I will gain great experience and knowledge. So I'm ready to start this new beginning.

I am glad I can provide laughs! We will really need it during the stressful times approaching. A master littmann! I am envious! That is a really good stethescope based on the reviews I read on it. I want one too, but I'm just gonna have to wait. yea, sleep. I have been trying to get into bed no later than midnight, but than restlessness sets in, and so I read, watch a movie, or browse the internet. I'm just going to have to learn the hard way come Monday. It's pretty unanimous on my end as well, that Parkland is not pretty, but boy will you get the BEST learning opportunity and just about see everything. I tell those that say its not pretty, give it two more yrs when the new building is up, and we will be just as "pretty" on the outside as on the inside, lol.

3 days!!!
