Night differentials

by cspink

I just got hired to work in a pediatric unit at my local hospital. I was told my base pay, but was not told if i would get night differential, i have not signed any paperwork yet, will it be on my new hire payperwork if we have night/weekend differentials in our hospital? do most hospitals have night/weekend diff?

can only speak for my facility - yes, there is shift diff for afternoon, plus more shift diff for nights, and weekend diff ..... I work nights and every other weekend, so .... ain't so bad *edit* .... forgot to add, no, only base pay was listed on paperwork, but diffs were explained before hire.

It depends on your hospital. When I got my employment letter, it just showed my base pay. It did not have the shift differential. Call them tomorrow and ask.

My offer letter had the base pay plus the night diff per hour listed at the bottom of the page.

Any facility I have ever worked in (LTC or hospital) always had a 2nd and 3rd shift differential. Instead of wondering about it you could (or have someone you know) make an anonymous phone call to human resources to find out if they do and what it is. In Rockford, Illinois LTC was .50 cents for 2nd, $1.00 for 3rd....at the hospital it is 15% of your base pay for 2nd, and 20-22% of your base pay for 3rd.

The differential wasn't listed with the base salary in my offer--it was given to us as a seperate sheet. We get differentials for evenings, nights and weekends.

Just call and ask. You should know before accepting a shift it may make a difference in your decision
