Hello everyone I am a new grad and I was offered a position in an ortho-trauma unit at a magnet status hospital, my problem is that this hospital is located out of state and I have to uproot my family for this job. Pros are I do have family in the state I will be relocating to so my son will get to know his grandmother , aunts, and uncles, its a magnet status hospital, great educational opportunities after 6 months of employment 12 free credit hours at a state university per semester, self scheduling unit, this is a 500 bed hospital so a lot of opportunity to grow as a new nurse. Cons are I have to uproot my three year old son and husband, which he travels a lot anyways, basically that's all the cons I can think of.

My other option is to stay where I am at and work for a 100 bed hospital, pros would be I get to stay in this state.

The state I will be leaving is California and I will be going to Tennessee, yes I know pay is lower compared to California but cost of living is lower too, I have actually already found a house to rent that is a quarter of my house payment here in California. I am just so confused on what to do? I understand no one can tell me what to do but maybe you guys can give me a different perspective in the matter. Thank you for reading this and if you reply thank you for that too.:banghead:

Sounds like your dh would be a major part of the decision . If you are both ready for an adventure change go for it! good luck!

You applied to this place; got offered a job and now you are questioning if it's the right decision. OK so if you didn't want to move why did you apply there?

Go for it!!!! If you have financial and emotional support I'm pretty sure you'll be ok!! :-) I have an interview on Monday for a ER/CCU position in another state and I'm going for it as well! Good luck and God Bless

Sounds to me like you really want to go and you're just waiting for someone to tell you that it's ok :D. You listed so many pros in favor of TN. I know first hand that moving isn't easy whether it's across town or across the country. So which opportunity is better for your family? Will your husband be able to find work easily in TN? Will you end up regretting your decision if you stayed in CA? Do you plan on furthering your education and utilizing the free tuition because I have to admit that's pretty cool. A lot better than tuition reimbursement. Definitely not telling you what to do but if my only con to moving was moving...HELLO TENNESSEE!!!! :lol2: Best wishes in whatever you decide.

Well I applied because I interviewed for the job in California over a month ago and hadn't heard anything so I thought maybe I wasn't getting the job, technically still haven't been extended an offer but heard through the grapevine that I might be offered one.

I agree with evolvingrn. What does your husband want to do? That should be a huge consideration.

Yup. Go. That is all.

No seriously, it sounds like a fantastic opportunity, with the added bonus of more family support for you and your husband and son.

Thank you for replying, I would regret not going to Tennessee and reconnecting with my family, we haven't been close for the last ten years, and my son would get close to his grandma. Thanks again.:yeah:

If your husband is willing to move, I think you should do it. That TN job sounds great, and the economy in CA is so bad that I doubt you would find anything even close to that good if you stay where you are. Your son is young enough to move without a lot of social trauma, and having family nearby is a priceless commodity when you have a young child.

My husband is very supportive of this move, he owns his own small business and he can work from anywhere really.

I would do it! if the husband supports you and the kid can get an opportunity to know the family, I'd move in a heartbeat.. not to mention that TN is a lot diff from Cali but overall the experience would be better for you if you got in there than if you waited around in Cali for an offer that might not come... go for it!!! be proud you got the job!! thats awesome!
