new grad nurse - first day taking patients

Just wanted to post a teeny bit of my anxiety here and ask for some prayers-- tomorrow's my first day [after two weeks of classroom-style orientation] taking patients [under the guidance of my preceptor] and I'm freaking out already. Any well wishes you can offer would help!!

Good luck! I'm sure you'll be fine. After all, everyone has to go through that "first day"

Just remember its your first day. You don't have to know everything. Glad you have a job!! However, I remember the first day.....I had to approach the entry way to the door of the pts room and take a deep breath and just walk in and fake confidence if you have to. Your pts will love you, you don't have to tell them you're new. Just tell them you are new to the unit and are orienting with another nurse. And by the way, you deserve to finally say "I'm X, I will be your nurse until X p.m. today" take pride in that!
