He/She doesn't want to post identifying information because allnurses.com (and, indeed, the entire internet) is anything but anonymous! EMT2RN offered you the favor of discussing the information you need via PM (private message) because of the concern for being "found out" online. Sounds like this person does have exactly the information you need, btw.
Take care with identifiers once you begin working. Many a person posting on online message boards has had the shock of finding that co-workers found them out, and there's nothing finer than an HR meeting because of a message board....

AMEN! Also, in NY area as a new grad, be glad if you can even find a job, as looking on here, NY area seems very bad to be looking for a job if you don't have experience, much less what your pay demands may or may not be....

Re: New Grad Night Shift 11pm-7am, how much can I expect to make?
Just out of curiosity, why would someone get in trouble with posting the area they work in, or even the salary they make? Why would this lead to a 'HR' meeting? Are nurses not supposed to post on message boards? I understand not saying exactly where you work, I am not yet a Nurse, but would be Wary of that, since I don't want my views to be taken for those of where I work.. but other than that, I don't see the issue.
Also, instead of 'dude pm me'.. couldn't the person just PM directly instead of a 'pm me' message? I'm new here, just trying to understand the message board culture a bit.
Thanks,
Stacy

Re: New Grad Night Shift 11pm-7am, how much can I expect to make?
stacyann1, many employers do not want you to give personalized details, especially pay data to anyone, as for some with various skills, this can be negotiable. At the same time, pay and bennies, can and do cause issues between employees and facilities. And yes, a user name that means nothing to me or you can be a big identifier to someone else, especially if they know a location, area, facility or specialty. As someone who is new, if you know that your employer wouldn't want you to discuss certain information with coworkers, then do NOT discuss it openly here. You never know who's watching. I hope I've helped clarify this for you. I would have sent this as PM to you, but thought maybe someone else may have been wondering the same--we're all new sometime! If you have any other questions, feel free to ask, we're all out here to try to help.

Re: New Grad Night Shift 11pm-7am, how much can I expect to make?
stacyann1,
For the 10 that are concerned about posting their salaries on a nursing forum and think that there will be a subsequent 'HR meeting', there are prob more that seem to think that is not a real concern, as Ive found evidence of in the sticky thread solely regarding salaries..there are many nurses who've contributed to it. Again I will say, if your username is obvious, then you might have a problem but even then I would say the chances of someone being 'found out and reprimanded' by their HR dept are very small. I think HR has better things to do with their day than scan nursing forums for people talking about salary and trying to 'decode' their username, come on!

no, but a coworker who is a busybody can be a real concern.....I saw it happen to a coworker, yes this board, and never even realized it was someone I worked with.....fired over an opinion--someone else at work figured out who they were and ratted them out. And yes, in an at will state, an employer has that right, and in this tight market with people worried about their job, people will do anything to make themselves look better. And if an employer is looking for a reason to get rid of someone, any reason will do, whether it seems right or not.
