New grad being laid off :/

so ive been in an ER for 7 months now, but my manager called me in one day and gave me the grim news that i was being laid off . I shouldve known this was coming as my hospital was cutting back a LOT. Now im pretty much going to be with my sister (unemployed new graduate RN). This sucks a lot. I do have some money saved up to last me, but its only a temporary fix. I live in FL. They laid off 3 top people in the hospital, laid off some RNs and LPNs. i have no seniority so i had no immunity at all. Its hard to think that i am considered to be unemployed now. Good thing i still live under my parents, but i have students loans to pay. I guess im back to applying for jobs. :crying2:. I applied to a couple of hospitals so far that i heard were hiring, but i hope they do consider me with some experience. New grads keep youre heads up and take whatever you get offered. I never knew i was going to be laid off, but here i am. :(. It angers me,and i work for a for profit hospital.

Seven months experience should be enough to get you hired at most home health agencies. It may not be what you want to do but it is a job until you get what you want. Good luck.

I'm sorry that happened to you, but at least you did get some experience out of the situation. What part of Florida do you live in? A lot of hospitals in Florida are hiring seasonal nurses for 6 month contracts.

I'm so sorry- that really sucks! Definitely apply for unemployment, and see if your state's unemployment office has job placement assistance. Look in to getting your student loans deferred. I think even though you don't have the full year, you DO have some nursing experience, so hopefully that will help you find something soon.

Do not despair. Keep up ur knowledge of nursing by doing some study each week, in pharmacology, etc. Also apply to all the nursing agencies as u have experience - u should get something.

Good luck
