Need help: Peer interview

I had a phone interview last week Friday which i thought was horrible becos i had 2 people interviewing me at the same time and i had to pause a lot b4 answering their questions and the line kept going off........ Anyway i was called back for a second interview which they said will be a peer interview. I gave never heard of that and i need help to know what too expect. I will also be shadowing a nurse too.

A peer interview means actual employees will be interviewing you (peers) rather than only a nurse manager. I have not been on one of these interviews, but a lot of my friends have. Be prepared to answer questions regarding team work, and perhaps even some ethics questions...

I had a peer interview as my second interview for my current position. I interviewed with the clinical educator as well as four staff nurses. It was uncomfortable for all of us but we got through it. They were assigned questions to ask me and one of the nurses handed me a plastic play toy and asked me "What do you do with this?" It kind of broke the ice and the format of the interview went out the window. They gave me an honest look into the unit dymanic and I got to show them who I am. I appreciated the time because it was as much me interviewing them as them interviewing me. My best advice is to be yourself. I was asked questions like "what is your learning curve like?," "describe a situation where a patient was unhappy with the care you gave them and what you did about it," "what do you do if you got an IV on a really tough stick peds patient and it's hurting them/they are trying to take it out but the doctor needs it to stay in?" I was honest about everything and wasn't afraid to tell them I didn't know the answer and would ask for help and advice from my coworkers. They loved that and I have kept true to my word. I've learned something new every single day and bounce things off them frequently. It's been years since they had a new grad and the unit is transitioning so things are chaotic but we've had such a great team dynamic. I'm so glad I got to meet with them beforehand and get a sense of what I was getting myself into, so to speak.

it is on a med-surg unit at TAMC in maine.
