Kaplan CD

  1. I am finally a graduate nurse :hatparty: I have begun to study for the NCLEX. Does anyone know what is considered passing on the Kaplan CD that comes with the study guide? I finished it with a 76.7%, but I noticed I did horrible on the psych questions. If there is not a passing percentage, how do you rate how well you are doing?

Anything above a 70% on the CD is considered good. As for the psych questions, everyone has difficulty knowing exactly how to answer them in the beginning. Just keep doing questions and after awhile you'll get a pretty good sense of the answer they are looking for. MOst of the NCLEX has to deal with therapeutic communication. Keep up the good work!

I would not say that NCLEX deals with mostly therapeutic communication. It all depends on which randomized test the computer determines that you will take. As for the CD, I got like 50s and 60s and passed the NCLEX on the first time with 140 questions. Many classmates didn't do too much better than I on these CD tests. The key is, despite which questions you may have got right or wrong, make sure you fully understand the rationales for any question before you proceed to the next question. Just my 2 cents tip!

Thanks for the tip. I am studying 60 questions a day using Saunders and the Kaplan books . I need to review the content for Psych period not just therapeutic communication. What really bothers me is that I can't remember all this material and I am afraid I going to get questions on some unknown disease process. In my experience with studying questions, it boils down to if you know the content or not.

There is no way you are going to remember all of the material. Instead of just studying questions, get a book and learn to take tests. The Kaplan book I have gives tons of information on what to look for in questions, how to spot a wrong answer, and how to interpret the question being asked. I have been able to answer questions about diseases I have never heard of by using some of the Kaplan techniques.

I am taking my exam on June 9th so we are in the same boat--GOOD LUCK
